Does anyone else get frustrated with Benteke's lack of effort on defensive intensity even on his own side of the halfway line. I mean not one of his challenges is actually trying to win the ball back. It just appears he is going though the motions. I got frustrated when I see Firmino track back and win the ball back leading to a counter attack. I don't think Benteke has done that once in his time at Palace. He shouldn't be doing it often but every now and again it could be a way to boost the energy of the squad at least temporarily.

Spot on, in pre sesión I thought he looked really lean and hungry, may be demotivated

Misses way too many chances also. It's annoying because he could be a class striker. I think the fact he has no one challenging him for his starting spot means he doesn't need to go all out every game.

I don't get frustrated with his lack of defensive effort. I get frustrated at lack of effort going forward. He's rarerly making runs into the box and then when the ball goes there he stands with hands on hips like it was close to scoring when in reality he was nowhere near it. No other option to play him but he's a lazy s*** at the moment.

He has shown glimpses of being able to play the ball on the ground - i.e. his dummy against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and his strike (with his foot!) at Anfield. But all too often he looks very one dimensional - great in the air but suspect with the ball at his feet. I was thinking after the Ipswich game how McArthur, for his first goal, ran with the ball into the opposition penalty area, checked, and then sent a beautifully placed shot into the corner of the net, and then thought what would the outcome have been had Benteke been in the same situation? Well I think I know the answer to that as we have seen what happens - he looks ponderous and unsure what to do and often ends up making the wrong decision.

With the right service the guy would score for fun . He is an out and out goalscorer not a defender a chaser of lost causes or even someone who is going to do much outside the box or on his own .

I'm still waiting for a repeat of the type of goal he scored against us for Villa a few years ago. I may be in for a long wait as worldies are only scored against us it seems although I'd settle for one off his backside on Saturday.

Yep lazy player, only scored 17 goals for us in 42 appearances, that's 1 goal in every 2.5 games. Clearly not good enough for us! And as for taking penalties.Ollie's Dad,Ash.

Why are you surprised at the way he is playing. He is not lazy, he is just not an all action kind of player that chases down lost causes. He was ineffective when we played this way under Pardew and it wasn't until big Sam came in and started to play to his strengths that we saw what he can do. I said at the beginning of the season that if we were going to adopt a possession based style of football then we should cash in on him and buy a more mobile striker, otherwise people will start getting on his back and it won't be his fault.I got shot down for this.
has resisted writing a single post on the Ross McCormack thread !!! |

My sole requirement for him is for him to be in the box when the cross comes in rather than what he currently does (fester on edge of box with hands on head and a pained expression on his face as he knows he would've scored bad he have been in the box)
