3-4-3 Do we have the players

The classical 3-4-3 format has been around for several decades.
The main reason the 3-4-3 never become too widespread in use was the demanding nature of the formation. It requires players to be tactically astute. It requires them to have very complete skillsets. And last but far from least, is that it requires players to be at the top of their games physically. The lack of width puts enormous pressure on the wingbacks, while the 3-man press upfront requires a sustained level of coordination.
I love to think we have the players but we are not Chelsea or Bayern Munich.

I would say that we need more players in, that we did if stayed with the 4141/433 of last season. We don't have a natural right wingback and now Sakho left instead of needing 1 cb, we now need 2.

No, we don't have the central defenders, or suitable wing back candidates. Nor will we be able to attract them. I assume that the idea of 3-4-3 will only be applicable to games at teams roughly at, or below our ability; I can't see us playing 3-4-3 against any of the top 12 or so teams from last season.

I don't get where all the complaints come from. Yes we need a RWB and another good CB but the rest of the squad would be good enough. You don't need to be Bayern Munich to play 3-4-3. It is one of the only formations that allow us to plays to our best two players strengths (Wilf and Andros).

Give it a chance, Frank will bring in the two minimum we need and then he'll upgrade the rest of the team with any money left.

Hennessey

Tomkins Dann (New CB)

(New RWB) Milo Cabaye Van AAnholt

Wilf Benteke Townsend

So you're suggesting that we will have a non playing captain then

Unless we start being very active in the market, we certainly have got the squad to play this effectively.

We haven't had a playing captain for a few years, even Dann only lasted half a season - all be it because of injury but don't think he was getting back in ahead of Tomkins and Sakho.

What are we missing then? Except for a LCB and RWB we have everything else in my eyes.

Gk- that can distribute with his feet
Rcb- that can be comfortable if drawn into fullback position, also comfortable on the ball.
Lcb- similar to Rcb
Rwb- has to have great engine to get up and down the pitch and decent crosser. If we see Townsend in the forward role. We need 2 of these in case one injured.

Back up striker- if Benteke injured.

Thats the team I'd be picking for sure and I'm becoming more and more convinced that we should be concentrating our search for a decent RWB if Riedewald is definitely signing.

So what you're actually saying is that we need to upgrade players we have, not that we can't play the system.

Tomkins used to play RB for west ham and has played it for him, I have no worries about him playing RCB if fit.

My opinion is that dann and Tomkins are to similar to be affective together.
