Short term memories - a Scott Dann story

I'm amazed how many people have written this guy off and are posting line-ups in without him or are suggesting he is on/close to the chopping block.

Do people not remember he was player of the year in 2015? Yes he had a ropey season last year but a) almost everybody was dreadful in the first 6 months of the Pardew horror show, b) he was injured for big chunks of it (including the back end when everybody else looked better as we were winning) and c) he likely suffered with the pressure of captaincy.

Why don't people look at things with a more long-term lens? Personally I think he offers more to the team than Tomkins when you look at their wider body of work (for us and, in JT's case for West Ham pre 2016) assuming both are fully fit etc.

Glad it's not just me! Somebody can merge these threads if they want - my search-fu failed me.

Well said! A fit Dann is well above Tomkins on my team sheet!

Question is will he be above Chambers if we sign him.

Chambers would be a likely starter at RB in my view.

Tomkins played himself into form last season and, I think, is as good as Dann at our end of the pitch. Up the other end though, the two lads you want to see on the end of something are Tekkers and Scott Dann.

Anyone looking to offload Dann - as opposed to accepting a big offer and letting him go - are both fickle and clueless.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I agree. The exact same can be said for James McArthur as well. An outstanding player for us and people seem to have forgotten that.

If FdB doesn't rate him (or JM) then best deal we can get. Like them both very much, but it's spilt milk. If we have strong replacements then in de Boer we trust.

I don't think it matters if the fans rate dann, it's frank de Boer that matters and with the constant rumours of centre backs and not making him captain, which i believe is the right decision. If de Boer doesn't rate him, then can we afford a player on 65k a week sitting on the bench. Scott dann is a great defender but one of his weaknesses is him on the ball.

Absolutely agree. Unless his injury has seriously screwed him, he's a class defender and the best we currently have.
