Frank de Boer has added two of his former colleagues to his current backroom team at Crystal Palace, with Orlando Trustfull arriving as one of his assistant managers while Alessandro Schoenmaker comes in as Performance Coach.

Former Holland international Trustfull has previously been number two to De Boer during his time in charge of Ajax and Inter Milan, having enjoyed a successful playing career which saw him lift a league title with Feyenoord in 1993.

Speaking about his appointment, Trustfull said: “I spoke to Frank last season and the season before that so I knew where I was always going to end up before he started with Crystal Palace. We’ve known each other since we were boys aged 12 to 13, and we started working with each other when we were with Ajax’s youth team. We shared ideas over the years and then we knew we could work together really well.

“I think we have a good squad with quality players and we want to make an impression with them, and I think we have a good chance of doing so.”

Schoenmaker has also helped teams to league success, which he did as part of Steve McClaren’s backroom team at Twente in 2010. He worked alongside De Boer and Trustfull during their stint in Milan at the start of last season.

“At every club I’ve been at I’ve filled different positions including strength and conditioning, rehab and the fitness side on the pitch, as well as the sports science side of things,” he said. “I’m an all-rounder so I’m trying to have my input in all areas.

“First of all I want to see what they’ve been doing last season and if there is a good solid base we will build from there. If I don’t think we need a change, we won’t change because regularity is the main thing.”

Both new appointments have had spells in England before in their careers, with Trustful playing for Sheffield Wednesday in the 1996/97 season, while Schoenmaker has previously worked for Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Sammy Lee and Ryland Morgans remain at the club in their previous roles, while Kevin Keen has left the coaching team. The club would like to thank Kevin for his efforts since arriving at the start of last season, and wish him the best for the future.

Watch exclusive first interviews with Trustfull and Schoenmaker.

Good luck to Kevin Keen and thanks

Really pleased Ryland is still with us, as to Sammy.

I know Sammy gets lots of praise but I feel we're just as lucky to have Ryland and should hold on to him. Hope the team gels well.

Does anyone know how all the roles lineup and work with one another, especially in the case of Sammy Lee and Trustfull together and Ryland Morgans and Shoenmaker both being performance coaches. That's quite a large team with both Sammy Lee and Morgans being quite senior. I wonder if either might feel undermined by the presence of the new guys. I assume Sammy Lee will be the new Head Coach but for how long, I'm sure there'll be bigger roles for him elsewhere.

Let's hope they're all professionals and just want to pull in the same direction. If they can all bed in and form a cohesive team it should be huge amount of experience and a formidable group.

Still hoping Bergkamp joins but maybe that'll be next summer

While it is fashionable to blame all last season's woes on a former manager, the truth is that much of the problem from December 2015 onwards was down to injuries. If these appointments can continue the progressive steps taken by allardyce to address these serious issues then these "signings" could be the best we make all summer.

I'd say "some of the problems", but that excuse doesn't hold water after a summer break. We had plenty of opportunity to plug the glaring shortcomings in the squad, but it took Sam to do that.
