Note i said "politician" rather than her party, because its her as an individual who said it, not her party.

She told the BBC: "The comment was totally unintentional. I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused."

What?! Aliens took over her voice did they? How can it have been unintentional?! Bloody idiot! Its not a phrase that would ever come into my mind to say.

She's my local MP and not a bad sort really but I can easily imagine her to come from a posh-ish background where that phrase was used in everyday speech back in the 50's and 60's. It was probably a throwback remark.

My lovely old mum still says 'coloured' - bless her.

Wow the HOL hive mind took it's time posting this. I thought it would be up in 2 seconds.

If you actually give a s*** about this then you seriously need to find bigger things to worry about.

Stop being afraid of words an they can't hurt you.

As for this woman. She has apologised but there can't be many who would use a phrase like that in a professional capacity nowadays. Someone needs to remind her that we aren't living in the 18th century.

I thought she would be older than that to use that phrase.

However you will find many people out of the metropolis who won't see what the fuss is. That's not to condone it, the phrase belongs in the past but you'd probably be surprised how many people will see it as a storm in a teacup.

If this was said by a labour MP would you still say the same? Honest question because I really don't believe that you would at all.

How many people that the phrase is supposed to offend (can I call them 'black people?) have complained? Or is it just 'white people' that are voicing their outrage and why are they offended (the 'white people' that is.

It's on the BBC News page. A politician using the N word is quite a big thing it seems. Thats why i posted it on here for discussion. Im not worried about it to be honest.

Some things are about common decency, not being offended on others behalf. This is one of those times. It is simply not acceptable for a white person to use that word. End of.

I'd say exactly the same thing. There is nothing party political about it.

Says the man who's never been exposed to the kind of abhorrent crimes and discrimination synonymous with these kind of words and this word in particular.

Someone needs to expel her from the commons. She shouldn't be allowed to represent our interests.

It was a stupid remark that required an apology.

Matter closed.
