BBC report that his Facebook account shows anti-Republican and anti-Trump rhetoric and that he was a volunteer on the campaign of Bernie Sanders. Legal's been a bit quite - is he in the USA? Edited by hedgehog50 (14 Jun 2017 6.33pm)

This shows that it's likely that it goes beyond ideology and more about the individual. The ideology is possibly one of many conduits that triggers someone to act in an unhinged w***er way. Unless you think differently.

The amount of hate Trump gets this is really a no brainer.....I mean, I'm not against as much non violent criticism as someone likes...and Trump certainly deserves some of it..... but I've heard so many comments and inferences where people have basically said or implied they wish someone would murder Trump....even frigging Ruby Wax did it on the BBC....not even commented on. When Obama was in power if anyone was doing this crap the outcry would be deafening...and rightly so actually...But there you go, we know how one eyed some people can be when it's someone they don't like. Freedom of speech in America is a shining example to the world....Better than we have here in my view. Still, it's a shame that there hasn't been more objective moderation with the views of some people. So many nutters with guns over there.

Oddly I find it odd that people who oppose Trump would want him dead. The man is a one man wrecking machine for the Republican party who will do so much damage to Republican appeal in swing states that it pretty much guarantees thee democrats eight years in office. And yep its terrorism of a sort. Like Orlando its not really organised or orchestrated terrorism, probably being more a mental health issue. But its politically motivated violence.

I think that if you look at the US right, there was a lot of this going on. From predicting his death by assassination, to outright threats and of course there was the whole birther conspiracy, of which the current president was a key player.

Being no fan of Trump or the Republicans, I am still angered by what happened yesterday. We are becoming Tsarist Russia, where assassinations were a near daily happening. Politics has become a spectator sport and not a serious discussion or debate of the issues. We score things based on which TV channel has the higher ratings. I have become a registered Democrat in name only since in New York, to have any say in who gets elected I must be able to vote in the Democratic primary. I would prefer not registering by party, as is done in most countries and declaring which party primary I want to vote when I sign in to vote on the day. That would prevent the bosses from being able to identify me an spare me their endless and meaningless politicking.

From the campaign trail: [Link] “If she [Clinton] gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said, as the crowd began to boo. He quickly added: “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.” The Second Amendment is the one that codifies the right to bear arms. Trump certainly didn't create the level of depravity in public discourse. But, just like with everything else he touches, he slapped his name all over it and called it his. Let's not forget that he burst onto the political scene by championing the ridiculous "birther" nonsense; again, co-opting someone else's crackpot idea. He's also embraced the wingnut media by making Breitbart's Bannon a chief advisor and even giving Infowars - Sandy Hook Massacre denier Alex Jones' website - White House press credentials. Right wind media and politicians have been stoking resentment and fuelling anger towards "the other" for a long time. Yesterday's terror was a logical consequence of embracing and promoting violent rhetoric. The fact that it was a liberal crazie shooting up Republicans is just an aside. Lastly, let's also not forget the recent deaths in Portland when two men had their throats cut for trying to stop a right wing crazie harrass a Muslim woman. Nor the gunman who shot up the Washington pizza restaurant named in the fantastical PizzaGate "scandal" because he wanted some answers. Nor the Bundy clan out west who had an armed standoff with Federal law enforcement over cattle crazing rights and who later occupied a Federal office for a couple of weeks. Nor Jared Miller, who participated in the first Bundy standoff and, later, with his wife, went on a shooting spree in Las Vegas that ended with 5 people dead, including themselves, two of the others being cops. These are just a few recent events. All of them are despicable; but let's not try and pretend that there's any equivalency between right wing violence and left wing violence, because there truly isn't. And until a loonie-lefty blows up a building and kills 168 men, women and children, there won't be. Edited by kenbarr (15 Jun 2017 9.35pm)

Orlando wasn't terrorism. The only role Islam played in that horror was that it was the shooter's religion and it is unflinchingly anti-gay. The shooter was a gay man who could not reconcile this fact with his inherited religion.
