Thought it was only fair it had it's own thread. 20 years ago today this happened in the last minute at Wembley to promote us to the Prem and I was lucky enough to be sitting behind the goal. For me personally it's one of my best memories as a Palace fan. After what happened the year before against Leicester, the sheer euphoria of this goal was unbelievable.... I was very drunk that day!!
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

I was sitting to the left of the picture, level with Hopkins. You couldn't tell if it was going to make it into the corner of the goal or go just over or round, but I swear to this day that the collective intake of breath from the crowd as it headed towards the corner of that goal caused the swerve that put it in the net

I was directly in line with Hopkin and top corner. Magic. Great when you get perfect view of flight and destination of ball and know you're one of the 1st to jump up.

we were sitting on the other side of the goal - looking straight down the angle that he hit it and it looked goal-bound from the moment it left his foot. Can't believe it was 20-years ago. Makes me feel old. A time to reflect!

The moment it left his foot you knew it was in but I just remember a split second of stunned silence when it hit the top corner.... then absolute pandemonium ensued!!

We were travelling back from France after a family holiday this day. Unfortunately our cat got run over not long after we got back. Have never seen my Dad in such a conflict between joy and sorrow. Still have the VHS tape that somebody recorded us off Sky that day. I really wanted Bruce Dyer's Adidas haircut !!

I was level with the halfway line. Still remember who hot it was that day and how mental the Palace end was when Hoppy curled home the winner

Stood behind claridge the year before when he shinned it in from the edge of the box...horrible, horrible day.Watched from in line with Hopkins and knew it was in the moment the ball left his foot. Can see me and my brother celebrating that fantastic Hopkins curler...still talk about it most occasions when we meet up.
God, it makes me so angry....I am gonna find a little bloke... I'm gonna have a fight! |
