I see that the squad has been announced for the games in June. Whilst I agree that Rooney has no right anymore to be in squad, there are some other baffling selections.

Jake Livermore - West Brom have been awol since reaching 40 points.
Lingard - We seem to be getting back to Man Utd getting automatic selection (with the exception of Rooney)
Defoe - when he was scoring for Sunderland you could sort of see it, but his goals dried up badly.

Good to see Kieran Trippier in there, with Walker likely to leave Spurs, he will shine for them.

Goalkeeping dept looks really strong now. Pit we can only play one of them.

Lingard is a mystery to me. Did you see him last night, seemingly through on goal then slowed down and tackled; Wilf would not have been caught, but Wilf is not at Man Utd- and yes, I know Wilf's given up and gone for Ivory Coast. For me it further illustrated why Wilf was right to give up on England and choose Ivory Coast as his way to play at international level.
I'm sure the Ivory Coast don't have such an awful boring band either!

I hate to say it but I'm with you, I really don't care anymore.

Cynic or realist? It's a fine line!

Nor me. The fires in my loins are distinctly unstoked by this announcement.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

people always post this kind of thing on here. i don't know what you're hoping to achieve. if you don't care, don't post on the thread at all. yeah the national team is a shambles, has been for some time. deal with it

In the words of John Terry I couldn't care less what you think.

As usual they will win all the group games, finish top, everyone will think they are the dog's bollocks, then they will get to the finals and bottle it completely.

the aim of my post wasn't to tell you that i think your ambivalence toward england is boring and tiresome (but it is). the aim was to question the very purpose of repreatedly reasserting this ambivalence. i was hoping someone else could tell me.

James if it is insight that you want, then I am also ambivalent about England now. For me, and I'm guessing a number of others who feel the same way, to feel that way is deeply disappointing. England used to stir the loins and bring out passion. Most of us have followed England and exuded huge amounts of pride, joy and despair in watching our national team.

Now that energising, life affirming relationship has been replaced with sterile football, Lingard clone footballers wearing white headphones and the national team there to sell 'The Brand' to the highest bidder. It is devoid of passion and soul and has been taken from us by the EPL and marketing men of this world and is now a piss poor commodity and, at least for now, is dead to us.

To try and express it in a different context, it's a bit like your favourite band who were the sound track to your teenage years shamelessly performing Little Mix cover versions at the Amex before every Brighton match
