I know we have been interested in him in the past but he isn't starting in the Chelsea team. He is a quality striker and is still very young. All of Batshuayi's appearances for Chelsea have been off of the bench so with substitute appearances he has only managed to play 127 minutes in the Premier League scoring 2 goals in 3 shots which is a better ratio (90 mins in a game) then 1 goal every game. The other plus is he knows Benteke really well so maybe we could have a Belgium partnership up top if we change formation this summer. Obviously I'm suggesting this signing for if we stay up...

Chelsea only bought him a year ago, for over £33m, and he's got four years left on his contract. What do you suppose the going rate would be currently, even supposing Chelsea wanted to sell (which seems incredibly unlikely). And even if they did why, in the name of all that's holy, would he consider a minnow club like us who would have just struggled to stay in the PL?

Surely if we get a fifth season in the Prem we can refrain from loaning.

The circumstances with respect to Benteke were entirely different. He was seriously out-of-favour at Liverpool and, at the price, many clubs would have seen signing him a huge risk. None of that applies to Batshuayi, who's not unfavoured, just up against some serious competition and so would we be, even if Chelsea had the slightest intention to sell or loan. I'm not down on the club at all, but I prefer a pragmatic approach to what's likely to be achievable than ideas that are frankly away with the fairies. We are not and, if we manage to save our arses, will not be an attractive prospect for either buying or retaining next season.

A myth that refuses to die. In spite of a system that didn't suit him and a manager that didn't buy or rate him, he still turned in the highest rate of goals and assists in his career

If Costa does go to China, Batshuayi will certainly get a look during pre-season as his replacement along with whoever they bring in on transfer. If he is let out on loan, it would probably be a deadline day decision. It is certainly worth it to keep him on the radar.

And being consistently benched would suggest being out of favour would it not? Edited by bexleydave (14 May 2017 10.48am)
