Never mind about that Commie codswallop. I remember when girls still used to dance around the Maypole in Ashburton Park,Addiscombe. Must have been in the sixties.
I expect they still do in some villages and towns if it hasn't been banned for being 'racist' or something.

Took the family to the Sweeps Festival (again) in Rochester this weekend. No maypoles (I remember them too) but more morris than you could shake a stick at.

The kids were very tolerant of my explanations of English Spring festival Traditions.
