I dont get it. One week ago we were being lauded for our performance at Liverpool and had won 6 games out of 8. Then we impressed against a very good Spurs team and were a bit unlucky. Now all of a sudden we look disorganised and nervous. Surely we can be so affected by the loss of one player, as good as Sakho is. We have been unlucky in losing 3 centre backs at the wrong time. This does not excuse the performance yesterday, but injuries and obviously the fact we had to play 2 tough games before yesterday did not help our preperation. But i still cannot understand why we were such a shambles!!!

Having to play 3 games in 6 days towards the end of a hard season has caught up with us.

Maybe it just shows how thin on real quality our squad is and the effect injuries to three or four key players has. Lets hope we can get one or two back for the Hull game. Edited by rob1969 (30 Apr 2017 7.06pm)

Edited by rob1969 (30 Apr 2017 7.06pm) I hope none of my 'sparring partners' from yesterday catch me saying this...but you are right; we played 3 games in seven days. That aside, my point this evening is to ask whether we got our tactics wrong yesterday. Should we have played our usual game and tried to bank a draw in the hope of nicking a win by scoring on the break? Don't all shout at the H-word (hindsight) but a point yesterday would have made a significant difference right now (ie Swansea can now overtake us with two wins and a draw, but would now be needing three wins had we drawn yesterday - this of course assumes we get no more points). Views please. Would it have been better to have been more cautious yesterday?

Edited by rob1969 (30 Apr 2017 7.06pm) As many have said, the ideal squad enables you to field two strong starting XIs. Very few clubs in the Premiership can afford this. We have had a simply shocking roll-call of injuries throughout the season, as bad as or worse than any I've seen before. To lose three strong centre backs in successive matches is unprecedented, for us or any other club, coupled with losing Wickham earlier in the season leaving us with f*ck all other than Benteke up front. Take two or three players out of the equation and suddenly we're an average championship side. Thank f*ck we've had a fit Zaha this season. The threadbare nature of our squad has come into sharp relief this season and, notwithstanding Pardew and his inexplicable "tactics", it's a miracle we're not dead and buried already. Improving quality in depth is an absolute must if we are to even aspire to a mid/lower table finish next season. Edited by Cucking Funt (30 Apr 2017 7.22pm)

Obviously for us careful preparation is essential. Sam said as much in his interviews after the matches against Arsenal and Liverpool. If you play three games in that time and with travel for one of them and obviously recuperate, how much training can you do? And if you have to change personnel and you have to respond to the strengths and weaknesses of each opponent, you need time on the training park to prepare properly. There wasn't enough time to prepare properly for the Burnley game with the changes required for injuries to Sakho and Cabaye. It's not a coincidence that the only other game we have lost lately also involved a midweek match schedule (Southampton away). We have no more such situations. In other news, McArthur seems to have gone to pot for some reason. Edited by chateauferret (30 Apr 2017 7.28pm)

Maybe it's easier to put in a backs to the wall cup tie like performance against a superior team than to actually take the initiative and take the game to the opponent with our current group of players which makes we worry about next season. Unfortunately I can't see Zaha, Cabaye or Sakho still being here and possibly Benteke as well which will make for a hell of a lot of re-building.

Two championship center backs are a serious problem. Luckly we need a point or three. I cant see that happening at City. If Hull and Swansea win their next games or even draw we will be under serious preassure. Swansea will be on 35 and Hull on 37. Which means we just have to beat Hull.Lets hope we dont bottle it.

The Burnley defence was like Donald's 'WALL' and we were getting smashed against it, then caught out off the break. In 'hindsight', given Sahko's loss, battening down the hatches to play out a draw would have:
