Well with Brighton and Newcastle back with us next year, will be interesting to see how our ex strikers Gayle and Murray perform if they get extended runs in the Prem next season, might answer a few questions that Pardew never asked of them!!

Gayle made 64 appearances in the PL scoring 15 goals and in 59 appearances in the Championship has scored 35. Murray made 50 PL appearances and scored 11 goals and in 119 Championship appearances has scored 58. That should tell you all you need to know about where their natural home is.

To be fair - many of Gayle's PL appearances were as sub. His PL goals to minutes played ratio was actually excellent I believe.

I wish both Gayle and Murray all the best - just not against us.

And that tells the rest of the story; failing to find favour with any of our managers.

Neither club will rely on them as first-choice strikers, and if they do they'll be relegated.

Yeah, too right. We wouldn't be that stupid would we!!!

Gayle was hopeless in first halves in the prem. Organised defences, especially on the 18 yard line just shut him out. There.

Correct. As good as Murray, Hemed and Baldock have been this year, Brighton will find themselves in the same situation as we did if they don't bring in a Premier League striker.

I think the situation is a little bit less urgent for Newcastle, but they'll probably want to hunt out a striker too.

To be fair, the reason Gayle was often a sub was because he very rarely provided anything when starting games. All his best moments were off the bench, he didn't really contribute much as a starting striker.

Dropping down a division for a year may have been the best thing for him. There is no way we could have justified giving him that game time in the hope he might develop.

Gayle was never good enough, for some reason it seems to be more so for strikers that can cut it in the championship but not at the highest level.

Him and Murray being yet other examples.

Lets not try and blame AP for this one!

I completely agree. I'm not making a case for Gayle, just saying his goal record was in fact better than it appears.
Apart from his goals I thought Gayle actually offered us very little.
