I shall enjoy a pint of kentish ale and possibly a roast dinner and reflect on what it is that makes England so great. Can I raise a glass to old Albion on a Palace site?

Nice that our national icon who has so enriched our notion of "Englishness" was really named Georgios and was from an EU country and is also the patron saint of Romania... Edited by legaleagle (23 Apr 2017 11.09am)

And a happy St. George's Day to you Nick and all. I will also be having a pint or two or even three of Kent's finest. My local(Harveys pub) held an electric jam on Fri and to 'celebrate' The Queen's birthday it was rude not to do a rendition of'God Save the Queen'......... ..................... The Sex Pistols version of course! Ollie's Dad,Ash .

I know being from the 'progressive' section of the left you find those two concepts difficult to separate. To be genetically English is to be European by heritage...though you can obviously be English and have genetics from anywhere. To be European is a geographical location....it doesn't mean you have to like the terrible mess that is the EU.

Made my annual post on Facebook to remind the seemingly self obsessed on there that it is St George's Day today.

Oh & for the record although patriotic, I've always been rather proud that as someone from England we don't deem It essential to have a parade down 5TH Avenue like other countries do. That said 'England Day' is more PC bollocks. It's saint Georges Day however you wish to celebrate it (or not in my case)

I find it laughable how everyone with one Irish ancestor in their entire family tree becomes Irish on St Patrick's day.

This St George’s Day, we should remember that the patron saint of England was an immigrant HtG you didn't tell us he was son of a Turkish immigrant. He wore a burqa its not sky blue but otherwise fully covered its the same silver as the ipod nano. The origin I think is just covering the body in Arabia to keep out the heat, in the koran you just have to wear the face and chest covering the hadij. They get a lot of sun in Ashton-under-Lyme, and you wouldn't want to risk receiving a 'perverted glance.'
