Kelvin Mackenzie can be horrible. I think we all know that. He singles out Palace fans for his spleen at times. grossly distorting trivial incidents in order to act the sanctimonious mobster. But, to put that in perspective, he's done far, far worse things to other people. Having said that, I think campaigning to have him sacked on race grounds cold backfire. Be honest, who knew that Ross Barkley was Nigerian? To say that Mackenzie knew that, and was still stupid enough to go to print with a crude racial slur (and indeed the picture researcher, who would have had to find a gorilla picture) is going too far. To make this case about race is probably self defeating. I heard the Sun want to get rid of him anyway, as they'll save £300,000 on his salary. He might be able to prove unfair dismissal though, if he's wrongly accused of racism. Any thoughts?

Hands up, how many people knew Barclay had a Nigerian grandparent?

Mackenzie is a horrible, horrible man who continuously peddles this awful nonsense. Whether he knew or not, the general slurs he aims (once again) at Liverpool are disgraceful. I'm pretty sure he timed it to coincide with the Hillsborough anniversary weekend as well. He's a piece of s***. Don't buy the sun.

The Sun has editorial control. They decided to print. If- as suggested earlier in this thread - they wanted to get rid of him maybe they let it slip through on purpose? (a conspiracy theory !)

The Sun isn't fit for wrapping chips in. It is more than happy to print a story bigging up a group one week only to denegrate them the next. KM is along with their key thought piece writers a man (can't call him a journalist,) who will more than happily take a pop at anyone hiding behind 'free speech,' ( bit like on here really!) But in this case the dear old currant bun is the boy who cried wolf as this story will have passed through many hands before publication, any of which could have realised just how offensive this was. But hey they have got away with it so many times the editors probably assumed they were teflon. And let's face it the Sun and good people of Liverpool have form after the load of old tosh the Sun published after Hillsborough.

Another victory for the thought police who are ruining freedom of speech in this country. They only want 'nice' or 'harmless' freedom of speech.

I ask because at the moment the police are investigating whether Mackenzie can be prosecuted.
