Last goal was in the fa cup final in may. The captaincy has improved his game in the last 2 games but can't help thinking that his lost that confidence in front of goal. When we first signed puncheon he thrived under pulis and in 14/15 managed 6 goals. This surely goes to show we must address the attacking midfielder in the summer.
Thoughts on lack of confidence in front of goal.

As long as someone continues to keep putting the ball in the back of the net (and we keep it out of ours), I'm not too bothered who or what position he plays.

I agree but to go 10 months without a goal definitely identify that a goal scoring number 10 is a must in the summer

He's playing a bit deep. The first goal on Saturday was very like Puncheon's in the cup final but it was Wilf instead of him.

As long as the team wins I do not care who scores.
Still needs to play or we do not win.

Cabaye has made 2 assists in the last 2 games after he'd not assisted even 1 in the previous 40 games or something ridiculous. Punch is also getting chances to score now. It is no coincidence that they can get a lot further up the pitch now since Milivojevic has arrived.

He's improving every week. Making him captain was a master stroke. 2 wins and 2 clean sheets as captain compensates for personal goals. But sooner or later he'll bury one, and then another, and then he'll be back to his old self. His football will improve with his self confidence.

Yup. Brilliant Pardew, he never even MENTIONED this position needing to be filled after he binned Jedinak. Sam is a proper manager. I just don't see the amount of posts anymore questioning his management like I did for Brilliant Pardew. The team is much better balanced. Sam is starting to get the best out of the players. He knows how. As opposed to thoroughly p1ssing them off.

Puncheon is just not the goal threat he once was - he scores less because he takes less shots, and rarely gets decent scoring opportunities.

His shots per game have declined every year since we've been in the PL
13/14 - 2.8
14/15 - 2.1
15/16 - 1.9
16/17 - 1.5

Probably not helped by Pardew thinking he was a central midfielder, but his most dangerous goalscoring form has always come on the wing.

Shots inside the box per game (much more likely to be scored than outside the box). With these stats he's just unlikely to ever score regularly (although should be scoring at least 1)

13/14 - 1.3
14/15 - 0.7
15/16 - 0.8
16/17 - 0.6
