After the Boro match 17:11 train from Norwood Junction a man had collapsed and was receiving CPR on the train held at platform 5 at East Croydon.

I witnessed the events and the shambles from SE Rail in the time taken to retrieve a defibrillator machine. This took approx. 10 minutes and the once received the defibrillator didn't have the necessary pads for it to function. A 2nd machine was then retrieved.

I just noticed this - the death of Neil Fingleton and Britain tallest man and massive Boro fan had died on Saturday.

I wondered if anyone else had witnessed as I intend to report my findings to the authorities. I really hope that if that was me in that situation help would be on hand much quicker!

I should add a couple of members of public (Drs) were doing their best but without a defibrillator the victims chances were reduced.

I've no idea who the poor victim was and hopefully he's made a recovery - my thoughts are with him and his family.

I was one of the guys doing cpr and can confirm that we managed to keep him going until the ambulance arrived. The guy is now recovering in hospital.

Good. Well done. From memory the equipment is stored on the passenger bridge (George Street end) from which ramps go down to the platforms.

Always good to know where AEDs are. I make a point of making a mental note of where they are wherever I go. Hope I don't have to use one (as simple to use as they are when properly equipped) but I always try to make sure I know where to go if I had to.

A lot of people that haven't done a first aid course or worked in a medical profession are worried about using an AED, but they are designed so that you could use one with zero training, so all anyone needs to know is where they are.

You guys did a great job and shame about the shambles at East Croydon, let's hope lessons are learned & also the time the ambulance took. Hope he has a speedy recovery

I am absolutely fuming if he's died because of their f***ing incompetence. Absolute disgrace from them on their part; they should be f***ing sued. Waste of space. RIP, no one should ever not return home from football.

Indeed. That post was probably a good example of why it's best to sober up before spouting off. In any event, the patient was probably a whole lot better off that the incident happened where it did; not many of us have resuscitation equipment at home do we? Plus I don't like the 'let's try and get other people in trouble' attitude. I'm sure the station staff were doing their best as was, no doubt, the hard-pressed ambulance service.

Well I think we can all safely say a massive well done to you and you should be extremely proud. Nice one mate.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
