With luka work permit taking longer than excpected and cabaye doubtful. Our midfield will be weak and stoke will dominate. It does wonder why luka was not signed in early Jan. It doesn't matter if ward plays or Tomkins plays rb. Until a midfield enforcer protects the back 4 we will struggle to be hard to beat.

Don't think we can start pinning everything on him, he has never played in the premier league, we don't know what he is going to be like??

Just when I thought that I was out...........they pull me back in

What I mean unless we firm up our midfield, we're not gonna pick up many points. Sunderland went through us like a knife through butter. If luka unavailable then flamini must play and please don't play puncheon holding mid.

Agreed. Jedi wasn't much cop when he came from the Turkish league for 6 months or so,while he got used to how the game is played here.

I think he sounds like a good signing, but let's not place too much pressure on him too quickly..

Agree also, I'm as guilty as pinning hopes on him as anyone. Optimistically he'll need around a month of games before he really starts to acclimatise to the league. If Mac, Flamini and Cabaye stay fit we've got a fighting chance anyway.

I think what the OP is getting at is that Luka is our only hope when it comes to our biggest weakness. We have no midfielder to sit in front of the back 4.. cabaye does ok at it but it's not a natural role for him.

It's not that we expect Luka to be amazing, but we are praying as otherwise its more of the same.

As part of a 4-4-2, a midfield of Townsend, Flamini, Cabaye and Zaha with Benteke and Remy up front could give us a fighting chance vs Stoke if Sam can string together a revitalised (and fear-less) back four with some of our new signings.

I know what you're saying, but I'd be very disappointed if that was the case.

Jedi was a free transfer from a middling Turkish club.

Luka is a £12m (or in that region) signing from the Greek Champions with Europa League and Champions League experience.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Puncheon is not worthy of a place in the side at all.He has been total and utter excreta for a while yet seemingly hasn't attracted the same bile as Hennessey. Is it because "He is one of our own" ?

What is Cabaye 's natural role ?

Jedi was able to acclimatise in a lower division with little pressure on him save doing his job.

Luka is being chucked into the deepest possible end with huge expectations on him to make immediate impact. He will need every gram of that experience.
