WTF..... why is this being highlighted now as if it is some new phenomenon or development? The world revolves around lies, deceit, bluff etc., and always has done....long before we inhabited the planet plants and animals have been waging a war for their survival and dominance based on deceit.... camouflage, appearance, shape, smell, touch - anything to put off a would be predator or attract a likely mate or to get food by way of an unsuspecting victim becoming trapped. Women lie to us men everyday... makeup, bright red lipstick, padded bras and slimming corsets... all designed to make their appearance more appealing to us feckless males and ensnare us for provision of sperm and protection until someone better comes along! Armies have done it.... the Coldstream Guards striking fear into the enemy by wearing Busby Hats to make them look huge, or Zulu tribesmen banging their shields and spears with chanting to upset and bewilder their opponents. Hitler (he has to feature in every debate) apparently said "The bigger the lie, the more likely it is to be believed!"... the Nazis were absolute masters of propaganda with the timing and subtlety of it. They subjugated huge populations with fear tactics spread by outrageous lies. Think about it... as a child we were told about Father Christmas, The Tooth Fairy - all conditioning us to accept lies as part of life. The biggest fake news is that of religion. As young Children we were told of the miracles Jesus performed, like his immaculate conception, walking on water and his resurrection at Easter etc. People lie to me daily and I am used to it. My job is to try and work out which is more likely to be the truth or partially true. It's not easy!

The biggest fake news is that of religion. I disagree as I think that the biggest fake news is the January transfer window

Nearly all the news we see is rubbish and people believe what they want. We're now in a situation where we all ought to write our own little newsletter and send it to ourselves every morning. One of my favourites was a complete meltdown on Facebook from a vegan last year when the Guardian published an article about Keith Flint from the Prodigy going fox hunting. My friend was talking about binning all their albums and never listening to them again (huge overreaction). He posted the article from the Guardian on his wall for everyone to see. The next day The Sun published a response from Keith where he said he had indeed been on a drag hunt on a horse he owned. He said as he owned a horse he wanted to see what it was all about. It was only a drag hunt and he didn't particularly enjoy himself. I shared that with my friend and his response was "I don't believe anything I read in The Sun" and point blank refused to believe it. I have no opinion on which was the true story, but it just made me laugh to myself that he chose to believe one news outlet over another, with no evidence or 1st hand point of view of what had happened. But that's an example of virtually every single debate that's out there right now. I think we all ought to caveat our passionate opinions with the acknowledgement that we're believing one second or third hand account over another but that we could turn out to be wrong.

Brexit and Trump won and Jeremy Corbyn is on borrowed time. That's not fake news. And post truth world started in the Garden of Eden(or the rift valley if you prefer)

Fake News & Post Truth is a worrying development. It has gone from a form of click bait to Science & learning being dismissed out of hand. You could not make up the Bowling Green Massacre story and yet, here we are. This is not about spin or bias but downright lies.
