We were never going to get him on a permanent deal but what an amazing loan signing.

Also, some interesting statistics for those who think he's too clumsy: [Link]

I'm sure we could if we had £20 million to splash out on him but this gets him away from Liverpool and suits us nicely.

You beat me to it, was about to start this

What a signing. Far better than Delaney and Dann at the moment.

I think we could of got him on a permanent but we don't want to pay 20 million and all that wage and him be s***, loan deal we can look at him and see if he is worth it!

I sincerely doubt that having spent apparently way north of $30m already this window, we could have stumped up another $20m, at least without a fairly expensive exit from the club (i.e. Townsend for the reported $15m).

Much better result to have kept all of our potential big players and got this fella in on loan as well.

I will keep my powder dry on this one.
I haven't followed this transfer enough to knoiw too much about him but with Liverpool needing a centre half really why has he been allowed to leave?

whilst we do need a centre back, especially now we are playing 3 of them at the back this is a massive gamble.

Hasn't played since April - 9 months and on £100k per week plus a £2m loan fee.

We have 15 games left. Won't start on Sat and can't play against Liverpool so max he can play is 13 games.

That's over £150k per game in loan fee alone. Add c£2.5m in wages too for the duration of the loan.

we have a 2 week gap after the Stoke game (no FA Cup 5th round for us) and this is where BFS needs to earn his money. Get the team fit and organised during this period. Sakho could then get a decent 10 or so games until the end of the season.

However, still a massive financial gamble

Is it a massive financial gamble? £3.6 million until the end of the season (fee and wages). A champions league quality centre back could be vital for us.

IMO much less risky than a permanent as we would have spent £20m then had to sell him again in the summer if we go down anyway. This way, either safety or relegation he is off our wage bill come the summer.

Blinding window on paper, got 4 in that could easily be starters for us. Hull lost snodgrass, scored/asssisted in half their goal. Sunderland lost PVA and couldn't spend the money on ulloa.

Because he'd been sent to the naughty step by Jurgen:

Will bring calmness and class to our defending, watched him play for Liverpool, hardly ever ventures past the half way line but uses the ball well and does the simple thing, with a good midfield which on paper we now have will improve the team a lot.

"calmness and class" - no sir. I believe this guy is a great athlete but his positional play and reading of the game are poor, he switches off, his pace can bail him out but not always. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of money the top sides waste on dross CB's (Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal etc). Sakho is also a bit of prat, tests positive for banned substance, misses plane for Liverpool preseason trip to USA, then when he does arrive, wanders up to Klopp with his cell phone and daft grin and starts taking the piss out of him while he is doing a Tv interview ! He gets sent home and hasn't played since. Hope he proves me wrong
