and very recently on a football pitch.

well done Sutton, the palace parts of your borough applaud you. ( and the chelsea parts of your borough are too busy dragging their knuckles to notice your glory )

now go and win the whole competition

Fair play!

My dad would always tell me a story about Dickie Guy saving a penalty for Wimbledon against leads. I think the replay was played at selhurst.

Yes it was, I was there !
If I remember correctly Leeds won 1-0 but I cannot remember the goalscorer. All I remember is it was scored at the 'Whitehorse' end.Recollection of the actual goal is somewhat hazy, if non-existent !

The goal was credited to Johnny Giles but it took a huge deflection off our old mate Arry Bassett.

45,000 at Selhurst to see this game.

As a staunch Carshalton Athletic fan and rival I can not wish anything but a small grudging respect for their feat yesterday.

I used to like our local derbies in the 1960's and me and my brother (the famous Carshalton allotments end) used to climb over the park railings or the allotments wall to gain access to the magnificent War Memorial Sports Ground..... aged 6 and 9 years old.

Come On You A's.

I've watched them play at Torquay Utd in the 1st Rd of the FA Cup!

It was. I was there that night as a kid. 45,000 others too as has been said.
I seem to remember it raining hard all night and placed all around the pitch were these metal boxes, I'm assuming they were some sort of dehumidifier.
And I stand corrected too. I always thought it was Lorimer's shot that deflected in off Bassett.
As for Dickie Guy, I seem to remember us showing an interest in him which fizzled out.

Babs and Clean Willie were in love they said....
