"Look at that. Accident blackspot? These aren't accidents! They're throwing themselves into the road gladly! Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness!" |

Caligula in 'I Claudius' - brilliant.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

No words can ever fully reach and summarise his brilliance as an actor.

I thought his portrayal of Caligula in "I Claudivs" was pretty good though. I wonder if he ever got to fcuk someone like Helen Mirren.... those luvvies are/were pretty rampant sexually and many were bi-curious too I suspect. Anyway.... RIP John.

Good actor, and a general guarantee of quality in pretty much everything he appeared in. He completes the "full house" for the cast of A Man For All Seasons, in which he was excellent as the weasely Richard Rich.

Other memorable performances include: Clippety cloppety: Champion Abracadabra : Harry Potter oooo, errr: Quentin Crisp It's the root-a-toot: Watership Down I didn't mean to be flippant, but with a bit of lightness. A truly iconic actor. And by all accounts a lovely person. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (28 Jan 2017 7.48pm)
