although i want to see townsend suceed with us right now this swap would make sense...mbemba looked hald decent lst season, has now had over a year to get used to english football and would cost us diddily squat til the end of the season. and he is in the right position good idea

I've had time to think about this...and yes Townsend has under-performed, but, the whole team has. You could argue that out of the first team less so than Hennesy, Kelly, Ledley and probably about the same as Ward, Cabaye, Dann, Puncheon, maybe even Benteke. Point is this, are we vindicating him more because he's not been with us as long as the others? He is an England regular, yet deemed not good enough for us?

He hasnt really deligered in his position, and we now have Schlupp and PVA on the left, plus Sakho and of course Zaha on the right. Defensively Mbemba would give CB cover. Given Sam's emphasis on clean sheets, it may well be the right choice to make

Do this in a heartbeat. Mbemba is a better defender than we have and Townsend is not our best winger. Put a cancellation clause in case of injury cover etc.

Given Sam's emphasis on clean sheets, it may well be the right choice to make I havn't seen enough from JS, PVA or Sakho to suggest that we can afford to let an England winger just waltz out of the club. However, if the plan is to keep 10 clean sheets and score 10 more goals this season then maybe we need to make a change. Know nothing about this guy but trust he's half decent.

Mbemba is a good player indeed and one who would come cheaper than normally. Newcastle fields Lascelles and Clark there as starting center backs. I've seen Mbemba play last season and I liked him, despite the fact that they went down. He was also very appreciated in Anderlecht. I'd like Townsend to succeed too, but maybe a separation is for the best of everyone. A player needs to be appreciated by the manager and Allardyce was just quoted saying that Schlupp and van Aanholt on the left side would be great. Zaha will surely play, so if I were Townsend I would go somewhere where I'm wanted.
