Once we were linked with him and it was genuinely an exciting prospect. So far his career has been a criminal waste of potential, but this move by Everton is unbelievably generous. He doesn't seem like a nasty piece of work like a Ravel Morrison or a Nike Ranger just a massive idiot who didn't grow up fast enough. Hope he uses this incredible offer wisely. I think it's astounding, but also very (unusually) decent of a football club to acknowledge a greater duty of care to one of their youth products. They know that the hype around him and the silly wages he was on as a youngster will have contributed to his poor lifestyle choices so for a limited financial investment they are giving him another chance. Thoroughly decent thing to do.

Good on Everton this shows compassion above and beyond the general duty of care. Perhaps most other clubs should take a good look at this and ask themselves why they haven't or don't do anything like this?

I remember Palace doing something similar in our academy. There is an ethos of people coming through not just getting better at football but being a better bloke than before. I believe David Wright the utility player we had a couple of years back was quite involved and seemed quite passionate about trying to get local kids with talent to turn their life around.

I've developed a real appreciation over recent years with the set up at Everton, they continue to run their club with an amount of integrity that is not just uncommon but counter-cultural in football. Well done to them.

Well done to them. I agree wholeheartedly. It was typified by the actions of one of their former players Naismith who would give out tickets to the homeless in Mersyside every week. The club has a lot of decency and I wish them every success bar 2 matches a season. Edited by coulsdoneagle (27 Jan 2017 4.17pm)

Real soft spot for Everton and like the way they go about things on the pitch. Always nice to hear good things about them off the pitch as well.

They just seem to have a great track record of praising and rewarding decency. We aren't bad at it either as a club, I feel we have a lot of be proud of. I would like to think though that we look at Everton for inspiration as we grow rather than most other Premier league clubs. This is an article I bookmarked from a couple years ago which I was really impressed by: [Link]
