Why? Surely parents should have a choice in what their children are taught about with regards sex education.

And you think that the quality of modern day parenting by all is good and responsible enough? How many even know what their offspring get up to? Education system has its part to play even along the simple lines of providing guidance and resources to parents alone.

You really should have picked a better argument than that.

That is deeply offensive to parents, smacks of social engineering and limits parental choice.

And judging by the quality of posts on here by teachers, yourself included, convince me that teachers are better at doing this than parents. Teachers cannot appear to spell or understand the difference between the trade and budget deficit's. Why should they be trusted with sex education?

Your response completely highlights the ignorance of those on the outside of the classroom as opposed to those who witness personal and social behaviours inside the walls of the school for the majority time of the school day.

I also give you the following link to reflect upon:

Matt: You've only read into a portion of what the subject of PSHE covers.

I know very little about the bill, why were the Tories scared of it being debated?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I note you didn't answer my question and flipped it to use that time honoured leftie tactic of siting 'ignorance' of those questioning them. Your contempt for parents in your response, to me, displays ignorance.

However, I am a reasonable man, and will give you a second have to answer the question. Why are teachers better placed to give sex education than parents?

You are correct. Get me a mortar board, a copy of Mao's little red book and an inflated sense of victimhood & entitlement. I will start tomorrow.

It's ridiculous. All the subjects teachers are being encouraged, sorry shouted at, by the newspapers, to teach, such as - e-safety, prevent, body image, sex ed.... to name a few are covered in a CPSHE curriculum. It makes no sense that Academies or a Free Schools don't have to teach this. It's an invaluable part of the curriculum when it offers enrichment, discussion, debate and life skills. These are skills which our young people need as well as the academic areas.
It's also worth having time in the curriculum (obviously age appropriately) to discuss this in the current world we live in where p*** is accessed by kids from an early age on their mobile devices.
We don't want a generation of boys thinking it's ok to degrade and humiliate women or girls who are given the message that degradation andhumiliation is the norm.

Well done, Nick! The voice of common sense and real experience in life who likewise understands the consequences of last Friday's crazy behaviour in the House of Commons. Other core themes to PSHE curriculum include health and well-being as well as living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and aspects of careers education).

Perhaps Matt also believes that parents are just as capable of exercising sound judgment as to how their offspring receive adequate access to active healthy lifestyle provision when the evidence is all around us as to spiralling levels of childhood obesity.
