Looking at the bottom four teams remaining fixtures, i would be amazed if 36 points does not keep us in the Premier League. I certainly cannot see it being anywhere near 40 points this year. It will probably end up like the 2004-05 season when West Brom survived on 34 points i think (although i doubt it would be that low, as i said i think 36 will do it) Yes we have some tough games at the end (but we also have huge winnable home games against Burnley and Hull sandwiched in between those last four games) while the other teams have their tough ones earlier, they could be demoralised by the time they play their winnable games. Sunderland still have to play Chelsea away on the final day. Personally, i think Hull and Swansea will be gone by then anyway. I think it will be us against Sunderland, with perhaps someone else higher dragged into it (Watford? maybe)

Personally I'm hoping that we'll push on, pick up points and get ourselves safe on our own merits, rather than relying on there being three worse teams.

Well, that's the reason we've managed to stay out of the bottom three despite some of the worst form the PL has ever seen (excepting Derby perhaps).

35/36 pts will keep us up this season. Will we get will be another question. We need 5 or 6 wins and a couple of draws.

Bottom 4 sides currently look really poor, without a big turn around then 34/35 points could well be enough. I see it as a league of 4 and whoever makes the best January signings will stay up.

I have just looked at it, and if the bottom 4 keep going as they are in terms of points per game, it would look as follows come the end of the season: Palace Pts 29 That is incredibly low! We all know that usually one or two of the teams around the bottom puts together a decent run towards the end of the season, so we have to hope we are one of them. Even with that, I would be surprised if 35 points wasnt enough to stay up. Could even be as low as 34 as it was when we went down in 2005

A couple of teams at the bottom usually tend to hit some kind of form in the last 8-10 games of the season, so I think the points needed will be close to what it is often, 37+/- a point or 2.

Question is, which games do we have to win to be safe?

I think total points at this stage is irrelevant. With Hulls next 4 league games being - We have to try and and put a gap of at least 4-6 points between us and them. Especially as we have fixtures against Sunderland & Boro at home in that space. If we don't create a gap now I cant see us staying out of the bottom 3 at the end. This club of mine constantly tests my loyalty but I as do many other fans never falter or crumble My loyalty to the Palace will never waver My unadulterated passion for a club I’ve grown up supporting wont die, and my desire to keep coming back and take the blows won’t succumb to negativity |
