I have been following the threads on and off for a number of years but dont think I have ever posted. But as I have a theory about the team at the moment I thought I would start a thread.
When we won the championship playoff we had the following
Jules/Ward/ Damo/Wilf/Jedi/Rambo/Yala/ and others, most whom have since moved on (probably reluctantly or were past their best). All average players (comparatively speaking with EPL standards) but they all wanted to play for the “club”
Since then we have added
Macarthur/Dann /Puncheon/Ledley. Again all average players (comparatively speaking by EPL standards) But again they all seem to want to play for the “club”
Then along come the Egos
Pardew, Cabaye, Benteke, Townsend
The above 4 have upset the status quo at the club, and looking at the body language of the “average players”, the remaining 3 seem to only be playing for themselves and the money.
OK Pardew has gone but the other 3 are still here and seem to have dragged the others down since they arrived.
PSG didn’t want Cabaye, why? All about Cabaye
Liverpool couldn’t wait to get shot of Benteke. Why? All about Benteke
Newcastle couldn’t wait to get rid of Townsend and take on Gayle. Why? All about Townsend
They all have big egos and can’t produce the goods unless it is all about them, so get rid.
Even Wilf who has had a chance at the big time came back and plays for the shirt (most of the time anyway)
If we can bring in players who want to play for the club and get rid of the egos we will survive.
Look at the likes of Bournemouth, Southampton, Borough, no noticable egos but they seem to keep going. They all appear to have average players but little in the way of Egos

You are probably not wrong.

Should have solely gone for hungry, unproven but talented lower league players or ones from abroad who would fit in with us not us having to fit in with them.

Surprised Parish has let history repeat itself. But we are Palace and the bosses at the top have always been bloody good at shooting the club in the foot when things are going well.

At least we aren't bankrupt or going into admin anytime soon.

I'm sure that's Parish's and other investors soul ambition..... to destroy the club he loves......

He invested in players that Managers and scouts recommended.... not sure how that is his fault that players touted by most pundits and most people before the start of this season have been utterly woeful but you go ahead with the logical stance that Parish 'LET history repeat itself' as im sure he enjoys burning his money.

I mean nobody would grumble (accept most of this forum) at unproven players (how you know they are up to fight for the club must be that 6th sense you have) and those players from abroad who will slot in. They must have been waving that 'BUY ME CPFC' flag as they walked past Parish's office whilst he ignored them and burnt our flag relishing the chance to be in the Championship.

Err, so it wouldn't have anything to do with,
Benteke- not in the mould which Klop requires.
Cabaye- Passed his PSG sell by date
Townsend-Just can't settle
Pardew- Always was larger than life even as a player for Palace so he's not changed.

I can not believe the way that some fans get on the back of our players.

Is it like you think that you posting this will somehow turn them around in to great players?

Everyone who has worked with Benteke says he is a hard working and honest pro who doesnt like to upset the apple cart and hardly ever makes a fuss. He never misbehaved at Liverpool or Villa just because he is better than the rest of our players bar Wilf I think it's out of order to assume he is a knob.

Goldberg and Jordan did too. Love the club. And we won't mention Ray Bloye.

Of course he wants the club to succeed but Palace have never been a successful 'buy big' club and the best of times have always been when we have had a tight unit made up mostly of still hungry professionals and talented youngsters and for which we haven't paid stupid money for.

1979, 1989, 2004, 2012. Not a big-time Charlie in sight. Parish was in attendance all these times. I just think he has lost the plot a bit and forgotten who we are and how we thrive.

I've got a funny feeling that by 5pm on Saturday we'll wish we'd signed Ademola Lookman from Clowntown.

I understand your reasoning but do you not think that this is a 'damned if he does, damned if he doesn't' scenario?

If Parish bought cheap players who are hard working/ for the reasons you have mentioned then do you not feel people would be saying ' Parish is pocketing the money or he is looking at selling up.' Instead he invested heavily with Benteke and Cabaye and broke club records trying to get us to the next level. Unfortunately Benteke seems to have less fight than than a dead squirrel and Cabaye seems to blow hot and cold. Nevermind the other transfers. I think you are right htat they are the wrong buys but I also think hindsight is a beautiful thing.

I doubt BFS didn't try.

Maybe he thought it was an easier job, with the same (or more) money?

Which brings it back nicely to my original point. The Chairman has a lifetime of supporting Palace. He doesn't need hindsight. He just has to remember the past and how Palace did well. The template was there.

Newcastle didn't want rid of Townsend. He's been a problem while here in terms of effort and impact.

I think people are a little harsh on Benteke, until last month he was scoring goals, still has 8 for the season.
