I first watched Palace in 1953; for personal reasons I was only an occasional visitor for much of the 70s and 80s; but I have been almost ever-present for the past 30 years and a season ticket holder for about 20.

For what it's worth, I have no wish to see Sam go (ridiculous suggestion), and I guess that we'll stay up.

But rather than looking forward to games, I now almost dread them. Over the years we've all known what it's like to come out of Selhurst Park fed up and bad tempered (many, many times), but within a couple of days we feel up for it again. No longer true. I didn't want to go to the Swansea game, and the first half that day absolutely sickened me. Yesterday was another kick in the guts and next Saturday is already looming like a big black cloud.

Some may accuse me of disloyalty and having a weak stomach, but despite all the Palace disappointments I've suffered over 60 years, I've never felt the sadness and disconnection with the club that I feel now. But I'll be there next Saturday.

Cheer up, fella.

When I come up for the odd match it is a 350 mile round trip and saying goodbye to hundreds of pounds: for one game.

Used to be able to walk to the ground in half an hour when I was a young 'un.

Enjoy the bumpy ride as much as you can.

I started in 72, my missing decades are the 90s and 00s really, though I got to odd games most years. Back now with season ticket in hand. But I too am beginning to dread the games. Having said that, it is less unpleasant to lose having been at the game than it is losing while 'watching' on media updates.

For what it is worth I think we might well go down, it seems to be an historical necessity. We've twice managed 4 years in the top league (well 3 now) but never managed 5, and we would follow Hull and Villa as losing cup finalists immediately being relegated. I hope we can break both of those, but I'm not holding my breath.

Nice one. At least that's brought a smile to my face.

I started watching Palace in the late 80's just around the time the Wright and Bright era started, so exciting times. Through my youth I always looked forward to going, no matter how poor we were, but since January 2016 it is horrendous. The whole of last year was terrible and the football has been dire. It just seems that we're likely to lose all the time. Considering how we started last season the downward spiral has been painful. Like you I'll be there next Saturday but I'm certainly no fun to be around on a Saturday evening anymore as my Mrs has pointed out to me on many occasions over the past 12 months.

1961 was my first game so seen the good and bad times.
Compared to the Mullery era, this is luxury.

I've been a regular since 1969, even since moving to Leicestershire 27 years ago. I no longer do evening games but always make the journey on Saturdays. The 2013 promotion season was one of the most enjoyable but the last year or so has seen that enjoyment almost dissapear. I love the banter in the pub beforehand and the people that we sit with are brilliant. But the club became complacent last year and almost became cocky which is very un palace like. Just wish we could have some excitement for once because the drive home is becoming really depressing.
Come on Palace. Sort it out.

Nope, i absolutely love it. Though the result is more often than not a negative one, it's still always a quality day out.

Going to Selhurst always has and always will feel special to me. I've seen some utter s***e and seen some fantastic results and performances too, but due to my inability to attend loads of games, I still get excited as I walk to the ground. We are Palace and anything can happen at any time.

I used to dread going home from Selhurst in the 80's as my old womans' family are all from the Bermondsey area and Millwall fans and very rarely did we do well against that scum rubbish back then. Now and again but not often and I used to have to listen to her dad telling me how s*** Palace were after a game against them.
He's dead now though.
Good!

Palace are underdogs. That is where we are at our best. That is in the make up and DNA of the club and supporters. Its been that way in most of the 45 years I've been watching except one season in the early 90's when we held our own with the big boys.

In recent years we have been underdogs over performing and scaled the heights of mid table tier 1. December 2015 we all got told by SP and AP to look up not down if we want to progress. Unfortunately the club, team and fans cannot cope with this. The reality is we never have been able to.

Despite knowing better, I got sucked in too and dared to believe maybe this time, we were going to get it right.

What followed has been well documented but needless to say catastrophic loss of form especially at home and big money signings failing to deliver has an all to familiar pattern to the older supporter. Who knows where this season will end up but Palace radar is screaming danger at the moment.

Its led me to question what I want from Palace. In reality I want to go the matches and see us win at least our fair share, especially at home. Anything away is a bonus. If we need to revert to the underdog to achieve this then so be it at least we will have fight and spirit.
