Yes it was a great strike but the ball should never had reached him. When the ball came over Dumb and Dumber (Dann and Delaney) were marking fresh air and left Ward to look after Carroll who kept glancing at him but didnt think to get tighter whereas he could have headed it away so giving Carroll all the time in the world to do his acrobatics. Very poor.

Carroll pulled onto the back stick as a lot of big strikers do because they are generally taller than fullbacks. If a centre half had gone with him and left a massive hole in the middle what would of been said then? Thing is the ball was behind him so anyone goalside wouldn't of got to the ball anyway. Like Giroud and Wilf, he actually turned a pretty poor cross into a thing of beauty.

we can pick lots of holes in the last months performances but that goal was a thing of quality. like girouds goal, you just have to hold your hands up & applaud the skill it takes to score such a goal.

Very poor. Ward should be cutting that out or challenging it at least, therefore not giving Carroll a free volley on goal.

But there wouldn't have been a massive hole in the middle if we had the right men in the right places in the first place. Centre forward should never have so much time and space in the penalty area that he can do something like that. Even if there's someone within a couple of feet an overhead kick can't be performed without giving away a free kick. It is true however that we were chasing the game as a result of earlier s***e quality defending and goalkeeping.

Was watching on a tiny screen but could see straight away that Ward had messed up by not marking Carroll. Yes his strike was a thing of beauty but FFS we have to make it difficult for the opponent! I can't forgive us making it a training ground for other teams to try their luck. This goes way back - remember the Spurs wonder goal Dele Alli scored last season? Awful closing down and non-marking. Look at the build up to Giroud's scorpion kick. We gave the ball away when attacking and had nothing in place as cover.

It is well known that Carroll goes to the far post to attack crosses and Ward made a real hash as the ball went over him. And what ever happened to defenders trying to stop crosses into the box ?

Yes it was a wonder goal made easier for Carroll due to a lot of inept defending. However, maybe he should have already been sent off for that awful and late challenge on Ward in the first half. And as for the first goal, don't get me started on Hennessey. What on earthg was he doing right out there. How he is an international along with Townsend, when Wilf has to go to Africa to be recognised, is beyond me Edited by Steve T (15 Jan 2017 12.44pm)

I tell you what, if that was me, I would have stopped it. Hic Another another thing, if I was manager, we'd be at least in the top five by now (Hang on, the last bell just went. Shall we get a double round? I'm having Kronenbourg) Also, Parish needs to sort it out. If that was me in the directors box, I'd have gone down to Allardyce and told him to GROW A PAIR OF BALLS Grrrr. After the game, I would have run the West Ham Olympic Stadium Firm out the ground, caaants, then done some Millwall on the way home. HIC Then I would have called in at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and cured everyone, and given all the nurses some inspirational messages and told them how much we all appreciate their selfless devotion, then I would have talked a 'jumper' off the ledge of the Shard and given them hope for the future. Then I would have smooth talked the RMT and persuaded them to put on a special train for me to get home and asked them to consider a different way to bargain for better working conditions. AND chatted to disaffected sleeper cells of angry Muslims and encouraged them to take part in society.. Simples. I don't know what I would have done about my Mrs though. She's angry with me so I'm sleeping in the spare room. Don't try and give ma advice, either. You don't know anything about my life and your snap judgements are not welcome. Grrrr

Don't know his thinking for sure, but he was a long way from goal !
