The Obama administration has been in power for eight years. It has pursued a benign foreign policy in those 8 years. Yet a few weeks before they handover power, this administration raises tensions in the Middle East through provoking Israel and s*** stirs with Russia, leaving Trump, a man they said during the election would destabilise the World, to deal with the fall out. As if there wasn't enough s*** flying around at the moment with Syria, Turkey, ISIS, etc., the administration decided to fling some more in the air: One cannot help but think that the Obama administration is trying to destabilise Trump by destabilising the World. If that is the case, then Obama, et al., should hang their heads in shame and we should welcome Trump, who already is showing a maturity in diplomacy by attempting to thaw relations with Russia. Goodbye Obama, Hilary, Kerry, etc. You won't be missed. Edited by matt_himself (31 Dec 2016 9.13am)

I'd say he has actually been a fairly good secretary of state on the whole. Still your general point carries, though I don't think you've really made any startling revelations. US politics has always been filled with outgoing administrations looking to get in one last jab or nick on an incoming opponent before the hand over. Bush did it to Obama with the banks. Clinton did to Bush with the keyboards and stationary for christ sake! To dislike this kind of behaviour isn't to dislike an ideology or a administration. It's to dislike (US) politics in general. I.e. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Scoring a few last minute political points. Russia and Israel aren't exactly bothered though, as they both know they will be getting an easy ride when Trump is sworn in. Basically- petty, but every administration does it. Comes from the odd way US politics are set up, with such a big period between the election and the inauguration. Means the outgoing President has nothing to lose and can take political actions knowing there will be no consequences. Obama has also pushed through 2 national monument sites to protect the environment- equally controversial domestically, but probably effective in blocking the pro big energy minded Trump.

I must admit Obama really has been a disappointment as President this last 8 years. What has he achieved of any significance and lasting value?

For some reason, one I can't quite put my finger on, the chattering class thought that the election of Obama was the dawning of some kind of new, enlightened era. What a load of old bollocks that was.

Plenty of people killed by Cops though? EFA. Unfortunately, the level of violence used by the police has increased against all (mostly poor) people.

As with many before him, Obama's merely a puppet for those with the real power, the elite/bankers, so it's no real surprise that the only ones who have gained from his abysmal administration are the elite/bankers. Happy new year.
