With an upcoming transfer window and Sam not long in the door, I think we can read a lot into what he's been saying in his first week here: On the squad and upcoming window: “We are certainly trying to make the squad a bit bigger with more strength in depth,” he said. “The players here are good enough but if we can add to that let's try and do it.” "You're never satisfied, are you? You can't be a manager and be satisfied when there's a window coming up," "It all depends upon what the others do, what's available, what you can afford, who wants to come. You've got to try to in January, as difficult as it is, and you have got to hope nobody comes in for any of your players. That can be even more concerning, if one of your players is wanted by another club, a bigger club.” When asked what’s he been saying to the players: ”Only about them being experienced squad players who have played exceptionally well in 2015 for Palace and other clubs, Cabaye at Newcastle and PSG, Wilf being at United and looking mature now, Andros being an England player, Benteke being goals galore if you give him the supply.
He's made a point of taking about the lack of strength in depth, so it's possible we might see quantity over quality in January at least in terms of transfer fee's, I doubt we'll be making a £20M transfer on one player. He even had an odd slip of the tongue when he called them a "group" of players, rather than a "squad". He seemed to make more of his perceived mistake than you'd expect, saying he was: "going to fine myself for calling them a group". I thought that was a little weird. I'm not sure his comments on Benteke's penalties versus Noble's record necessarily mean we'll be on the hunt for a penalty taker in the window but I wouldn't rule it out completely. I think the squad comment as opposed to the group, Was for some reason aimed at Pardew. He always referred to his team as "This group of players"

Pulis on his post match MOTD or sky interview always referred to Palace as 'The football club'. So it covers him for any club he happens to be managing in case he has completely forgotten who they are

Funnily enough, it is barely a "squad" as the lack of competition for places is probably the worst in the league. At least Big Sam seems to know that, Pardew didn't seem to.

PayUpTonyPulis - getting fined for leaving....
