In my opinion the players we have in these positions will do enough to keep us up, and focus on improving that side of our team next season. Edited by speediej (19 Dec 2016 3.11pm)

I was looking at our predicted squad for this week and because of injuries it is virtually the same squad as last season, just with benteke upfront and with townsend instead of bolassie. I think a lot of people could argue that it is not really an improvement on last year. At least with bolassie playing teams were reluctant to overcommit. We looked good at the start of the season when our team was fully fit and we had options but most of our new players are broken or horribly off form...

I think a new LB and a new striker are priorities with anything else being a bonus. I would rather we invested heavily in two areas than tried to buy half a new team. Ward is still a good RB and Kelly is good cover for that position. Delaney, Dann and Tomkins are good enough we just haven't been well organised.

Trying to blood that many new players in January will be even more of a disaster than we are currently experiencing! Left back is a must, the lack of balance of the team is killing us at the moment. We need a back up to Benteke but don't expect anyone wonderful to want to be that. I actually think a new attacking midfielder is probably the only other position I suspect that they will try and address till the summer. Expect 2 of those 3 roles to be filed in January but no more.

Left back is a massive, massive priority just so that we might be able to get back to picking a consistent and balanced back four. A proper No.10 would be nice to take the pressure off Wilf and support Benteke. Alternatively, if we don't get a No.10 then a striker. I guess that also depends on Remy's fitness. If he truly won't make it then we need some cover even if only on loan, but if we can't improve supply/goals from midfield then we can't risk losing Benteke and only having Campbell. Those are the main three I think, with probably just one of the second two. I'd rather see us bring in two really good players at left back and in the attacking third, then buy six players. The nature of the performances and the somewhat 'unusual' way we've managed to lose games still has me slightly optimistic that we're not THAT far away from getting it right. The only good thing is, that the holes in our squad are very obvious, so it shouldn't really matter about AP's position? Whether it's him or someone else, Parish will know we have to get a left back in January. That should (hopefully) make it easier for him to get on with it?
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

y do we have such a long list of players injured? Groin, Knees, hamstrinnnnnngs. Is it to do with the playing surface of the training ground or the continual watering of the pitch prior to the start of a match and again at half time. I still think selling Bolasie to buy Bentece was a poor move as was the signimg of Townsend- A positive for the tean is the form of Hennessey , he has kept our defeats to one goal, but I expect AP will drop him as soon as Steve bandana is fit so expect Hennessey to look for a move.

But did you think so at the time. 28m quid and he wanted to go. Townsend looked like a good signing (and was at the start of the season, but his form has slumped). Truth is, he wanted to 'step up', and he'd earned his chance to move on if he wanted to. I doubt we could have matched the wages and signed Beneteke. Of course, Everton would say it was a bad deal for them, given he's out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Its from playing football and maintaining a level of match fitness. This time of year, is usually the spike period of the injury phase for teams. The colder weather and the pressure of knocks picked up along with the prolonged period of playing, training and playing, mounts up. Not much you can do about it, their fitness levels they need to maintain puts them at risk of injury.

We simply need a proper Left Back ideally on January 1st. And a striker as back up for Benteke. I think we can write off the Remy loan.

A new manager would be a good starting point.
