Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Shergar's Derby victory in 1981.

I was there as usual (when the Derby was run on a Wednesday afternoon). Had a wedge on him at Even's and won a packet.

Won by 10 lengths at a canter, slowing down near the finish.

Swinburn was a talented jockey and was right up there with Piggott, Lewis, Mercer, Eddery, Carson etc in the golden age of flat racing.

RIP Walter.

I was there too in 1981, was working in Sutton and as mentioned above the race was on a Wednesday in those days, so plenty of liquid vendor entertainment. Met a French girl who left me for a farmer, never been fond of the CAP since.

No details of what he passed away of. Just hope it wasn't the demon drink like Eddery last year.

I was hoping that. One article said he suffered from epilepsy.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

One article mentioned epilepsy with a friend quoted saying he passed away peacefully at home. However another I noticed made lots of references to him being very sensitive and depressed in the past coupled with an eating disorder when racing . Hoping it wasn't more than natural causes . No age at all . Used to watch him on ch4 on Saturday afternoons very softly spoken I always thought.
