Just an observation but is the team spirit actually as good as being made out ? Cabaye is currently not giving anything, Townsend neither and Steve is rumoured to want away.

In addition the back four have all to a man become bad players overnight. Alan "partridge" Pardew continues in his usually arrogant way to push on with his new style of play which is less successful than the old style. Have the back four lost faith in his new tactics and become totally confused ?

Not sure that everything is as rosey as made out.

Cabaye pre 5th booking was playing as well he ever has for us

Townsend hasn't cut it so far

Mandanda misquoted, part of a longer answer to a question

Second half of 2015 season 5 draws 2 wins first half of 2016 4 wins three draws, still poor but better than it was

It's all amazing and going to plan.

But seriously, Pardew said they were the happiest group of players. Doesn't mean they're focused, and ultimately a footballer becomes miffed when he's watching the ball or picking the ball out of his net 3,4,5 times on a regular basis with no control over what's happening. This stuff is akin to Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares where he sees a business with talent but has lost its focus and doesn't do what it's good at anymore. It just continues its confused strategy of no strategy and throws a load of stuff on the menu in the hope some of it works. No leadership in the kitchen and the owner in denial it's going wrong and only one way. There's usually somebody in there who is lazy or lacking skills to be in a kitchen cooking real authentic food and relies on his only method of quick microwave food as its guaranteed to get him out of the sh1t. He goes or has his & rse kicked, not allowed to continue running the thing into the ground because of his ignorance or ineptitude.

Is it the 3rd goal where Hull's player practically walks through our defence unchallenged? When Wilf scored it took top class skill and a bullet from an acute angle. When they scored its like we're having a mess about in the park in the summer holidays. We are farcical right now.

Just wonder how long the board will allow this defensive show go on? They all seem paralyzed when opposition attack. God forbid, Livermore of all people walked thru our back-unit like they were blindfolded. And Tom Huddlestone ran the show - in Hull's previous match he came on as a sub and did absolutely nothing (loss against Middlesbro).

The spirit is still there but some of the players lack of focus is appalling for seasoned professionals. No excuses and the blame should lie firmly with them as individuals.

The shape of the team was bad on Saturday and that blame lies firmly with Pardew and the coaches.

The defence is totally Championship standard at best apart from Dann who we know can operate at a much better standard then we have seen recently.

New coaches and new defenders Alan if you want to keep your job and sharp-ish. And Cabaye needs a big kick up the derriere.

Lack of focus, preparation and application, especially from players who've done it for us countless times or for West Ham in 1 or 2 games is down to the players. Over the course of 4 months, with poor form for 4 months before with a summer break in the middle isn't the fault of the players. There is no direction, leadership, instruction, or instruction that's followed unless the players decide there's their own training following the failed training effort from management the week before. There's only one person responsible there.

The defence is not 'totally championship standard.' 3 of them have played for us plenty of times and one at West Ham. God when we have a strong side it's also not his fault. A lot of the time the only new players on the pitch are Benteke and/or Townsend. They were meant to be the amazing answers. Christ the Pardew fan club excusers really do have a varied bag of straws to clutch from.

Yep new signings. Half of Pardews signings have been awful. A manager is allowed 1 or 2. Half of his never play cos they're sh1t. The likes of Pulis and Allardyce recognise within a month and bring in 3 players to sort things out. The 3 K's at Sunderland and Dann et al here. Pardew couldn't sort his knives from forks but knows when to bully and demand his West Ham coach and entourage swap meals if their's look nicer.

Quality wise a Premiership defence which has Kelly, Fryers, Ward, Delaney and Hennessey all being picked regularly either starting or on the bench is just not going to cut it at this level. One or two have performed quite adequately in the past but they are playing at one level higher than they should be.

The fact that they can get games at Palace shows us where our major weakness is now. It wasn't a year ago but it is now. The gap in quality has caught them up.

The disappointing thing about Saturday is that due to the phantom penalty, we will never know if Southampton could have been a turning point. Yes we rode our luck a little but if we could have added a clean sheet against Hull it would have been a real confidence boost.

Rudi - you make some valid points but this thread is about team spirit and to be fair to Pardew, whether because of or in spite of, they do still seem to have it

No but I question some of the fans spirit sometimes. Some of you lot have given up hope of getting anything vs Man U and Chelsea. Pardew had to change the style of play, did u see us 2nd half of last season?? We've just dug in and got 4 points from the last two games, that's pretty decent! Try getting behind the team and manager , I thought this is what being a palace fan was all about , not moaning and feeling sorry for ourselves??

Some of the defending has been embarrassing so far this season but that goal took the biscuit. Not one of them looked like they could be bothered!
