I see Pardews got the backing of the chairman, doesn't that usually mean P45 in the post?

So what happens is this: A manager goes on a bad run and, quite predictably, the media are always going to ask the chairman for some sound bytes about that bad run. Of course a chairman will always stick by a manager unless they intend to immediately fire them. 9 times out of 10, a manager on a bad run will be the underdog in most matches and it's harder to overturn than manufacturing a win from a team high in morale. Therefore the bad run continues and the chairman has no choice but to fire the manager. This is why the "public vote of confidence" usually coincides with a firing not long afterwards. What it doesn't equate to is that the chairman is planning the departure of the manager during that interview. It just correlates that the chairman is only really ever asked about the manager at a time of turmoil. Well all that made sense in my head anyway.

Answering a question is the polite thing to do. Saying no comment, would have fuelled more rumours.
