Yeah we wasn't very good but 3 goals and a clean sheet when we've been on a run like we have will do the confidence wonders, no matter how it's happened. My concern is how deep we defend and the unreal amount of crosses we let in.Southampton were terrible yesterday but who cares.

Exactly. We'll take the luck when it comes. About time too.

We've played better tha that against Burnley and City and lost. It's a weird season...
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

WTF is wrong with some of you people? I have been a staunch critic of AP lately but it's clear to see that the things that were costing us lately weren't happening. At defensive set pieces Benteke on the front post instead of trying to mark people, and winning any ball in the air that came near him. Defence organised, communicating and disciplined. We were on the spot to punish Southampton when they made mistakes. Most importantly, we didn't go to sleep or do anything stupid ourselves and we closed the game out authoritatively. OK, Southampton had a bad day at the office and 3 - 0 maybe flattered us but a worse performance than shipping five goals to Swansea through stupid errors? Seriously? Credit where it's due. Oh, and one other thing. Delaney was a colossus. Edited by chateauferret (04 Dec 2016 9.19am)

A much better and more organised display by our defence. Delaney was superb. But, I lost count of the number of times we lost possession in the middle third of the field by poor passing or just being tackled. That was not good enough and we will go on being punished for that, as we have been many times in the past, if it continues.

All that matters is the points. How we got them is a side issue.

We do really have to get real and accept that yesterday's performance is how it has to be for an average PL side that does not have and probably never will have the resources to compete for a top 4/5/6 position in PL. instead we should set out our horizons on being an established mid table PL side that is difficult to beat both at home or away. The win was important yesterday not how we got it. I am not a fan as yet of AP and he needs to do a lot more to win me over but credit where it is due he and the team have been under tremendous pressure recently and rightly so both from fans and the media. If he has finally learned that Tony Pulis method of play when you have a squad of average ability then so be it because for me the most important thing will always be lets win or draw with workhouse football rather than try and play pretty football and lose 5/4, 4/3 and so on, which will put us back in the championship!

Some of the posts are unbelievable, what do people want. We produced a back to basics solid performance against a good Saints side, most people expected us to lose. It seems people just don't want to give credit. If that performance was say, under a different manager, everyone would be praising him.

Agree. And who know's, if we do hang around in the Premiership for a few more seasons we may be able to attract the right quality of players that will allow us to play better football and survive and maybe win the odd cup or two.
