Although pardew took us to the cup final and keep us up last season. He certainly didn't warrant a new contract which now keep him here until 2020. Reports out of the times newspaper suggest should palace sacked pardew it will cost the club 5 million pounds. Had he not signed his new deal,I'm sure pardew wouldn't be our manager with this current form.

Doubt the money thing comes into it.

He would still be manager just now regardless. He will still be gone in two games if the results don't go well regardless.

Hopefully we get 6 points though.

unfortunately money now dictates football. Where as staying in the division costs 100m+. Dropping out of the prem, only leaves us with parchute payments.

I think you are spot on. Getting to the cup final was a big plus for AP but the league form last season after Christmas was so poor that he did not deserve such a good new contract. He was given too much power which is not the way to get the best from an ego driven character like him.

What will cost more in the long run
Paying an exit payment to Pardew or crashing down to the Champoinship??

I agree it was dim.

My issue is that if the Times story is true, then SP probably feels tied to the decision, having persuaded his new Yankee friends that it was the right course of action.

So he's perhaps not being as ruthless as he should be because there's pride at stake.

As I posted elsewhere - given the second half of last season the contract should have been withdrawn awaiting better results this season!
Un less there is a get out clause based on points by Xmas or something?

A very few of us including myself suggested last season that it was the wrong time to be extending his contract as he hadn't really done enough to warrant it and we were roundly pilloried at the time

You missed the OP's point. If Pardew hadn't been offered the unwarranted new contract, we could have avoided both scenarios.

I was with you and was also "pilloried" for even daring to doubt Mr Pardew!
