Can losing one player really make a difference to the team and eventually relegate us
Has Papes injury really hurt us that bad ?

I think it's hampered us going forward and slowed us down but it's no excuse for a defence that used to be notorious for its parsimony even before Souare came tuning into the Titanic.

Souare's strengths are going forward and less so when defending. Losing him, if anything, should have affected our attack more than defence. The real problem is that Pardew is trying to force an open, attacking style of play on a group that aren't equipped to cope with it and, at the same time, he has neglected the Pulis-style drilling of the defence, it would seem. Add to that his persisting with Kelly at LB, in a role he's spectacularly unsuited to and you have the recipe for what we're witnessing.

Kelly (who has had to put up with a fair amount of stick on here) had his best game for us yesterday for absolute ages, he also linked up well to put in 3 half decent balls into the Chelsea box.

You could see Benteke, Wilf, Cabaye, McArthur all playing for a top 6 side.

Dann is capable of playing at that level -- and is slowly finding his form. The other defenders are at about their level and the only way to do better is extreme drilling, fitness and discipline.

That is why we score a lot and concede a lot.

We just need a left back with a left foot to sign on Jan 1st.
Then put Ward back on the right.
Is Ashley Cole available.?
And we will be fine.

Main thing with losing Pape was losing the energy he brings to the team. Bolasie too,we are now very flat and one paced and only have Zaha to drive at opposition and encourage us forward. On a separate note I thought Martin Kelly was superb yesterday, although perhaps collects a portion of blame for the goal (I haven't watched it back)
