So Wales wont wear a poppy on their armbands as they dont want to risk a fine or points deduction. I bet Coleman will have one on his suit though, which makes it even worse.

This is one of the very few times I look at The English FA and think good on you! Deduct points do your worst as Theresa May said "it's a bit rich FIFA throwing down sanctions bearing in mind the state their own organisation is in!" One thing I don't get though is if any political emblem can't be displayed on a shirt how come a nation can display its flag? And as for The Welsh it sums up the tin pot s*** hole! No back bone and more worried about losing a couple of points than making a stand! Be interesting to see if they feel the same way when it comes to remembering the passing of Little Bo Peep or Larry the Lamb!

i'd rather see England not qualify due to a points deduction and for the world to look at the FA and say "good on you" than to scrape by and have no backbone. totally shameful. Lets hope they don't qualify anyway now

Totally agree. Me too - utterly spineless, Wales should tell FIFA not to politise our remembrances.

I'm disappointed with the decision. I'll be there tomorrow and I hope the other activities in the ground and around the city do remembrance day justice. International football is a business now like any other and FIFA don't want the product being ruined by controversy from one of the big teams. Maybe if we were one of the smaller less successful nations like England then it would have been easier.

To be fair, Wales are not playing a British team. What if Serbia wanted to wear something about the Balkan war, then another country etc. It needs to be within reason. For example a ban would be justified if England were playing Germany, Iraq, Ireland etc as it would be political then. Common sense should have prevailed for the England Scotland game. Anyone know if Northern Ireland will defy the ban?

I should clarify that I pretty much don't care what Wales do. I'm just pleased to see the stance of England and Scotland.

The fine Argentina received for their Falklands banner was only £20k and most people would argue that it was a lot more political than wearing a poppy. What the FA have done is make the poppy wearing a political statement, they should have just worn them and not asked for permission.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |
