Ok, so a lot of people seem to prefer Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt and everyone seems to remember Soft Cell's version of Tainted Love above all others, so I thought I'd ask, what are everyone's favourite cover versions of songs?

Mine:

Smashing Pumpkins' cover of Isolation by Joy Division
Rammstein's cover of Das Model by Kraftwerk
Cradle of Filth's cover of Sleepless by Anathema
Bauhaus' cover of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie
Marilyn Manson's covers of Down In The Park by Gary Numan and I Put A Spell On You by Screamin Jay Hawkins
Johnny Cash's cover of Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode
My Ruin's cover of Tainted Love by Gloria Jones
Placebo's cover of 20th Century Boy by T.Rex
Prodigy's cover of Fuel My Fire by L7

I should've also included the Sisters of Mercy cover of Gimme Gimme Gimme by Abba, mainly because Andrew Eldritch's vocal range was totally exposed by this one and it was f**king dreadful.

But I am sad that I forgot to add their cover of Gimme Shelter which I actually preferred to the Rolling Stones version (which I do also love).

I know a lot of people that feel this way. I love them both. Having seen Nine Inch Nails perform Hurt twice, the first time in front of a festival crowd that stood in complete awe....NIN edge it for me. Even the backdrop was spot on, they had an LED matrix quite appropriate for an industrial band but for the last song they had pixelated electronic snowdrops falling behind Trent Reznor. Was chilling.

Iggy Pop released it first I think, but I'm not sure that makes it a cover when Bowie was involved in it from the kick off. He essentially covered his own song.
