I remember back in the day when the Croydon Advertiser was THE paper for Palce news. Even when I moved away from Croydon I looked forward to Friday and the latest from inside the club. These days it simply regurgitates random stuff from social media and places like these boards often with a negative spin. No news, no effort at news or even basic journalism. Is this just the demise of the local press or just sheer laziness on their part?

they have a generic (and i mean EVERY local paper) website which as you say regurgitates nothing and quite often is laden with errors. They are also RAMMED with intrusive advertising which, when you make a comment/complain, is met with a "well we have to do it as nobody buys a newspaper anymore" response. tbh, as sad as it is, I wouldn't even wrap my chips in it now.

The FANS VIEW posts are awful. Usually young fans who only seem to know our recent success, therefore like quite a few on this site, jump on every defeat forgetting how well we might have played in the match before and suggesting players should be dropped etc. One of them seems very anti Delaney, and criticises Cabaye a lot.

During the 90's i used to love reading it on a friday after school - but i think due to social media, us being in the prem and featured in other rags - it loses out.
This was once a quality forum.... |

News reporting now just involves trawling the internet and social media and copying and pasting...usually inaccurately.

I never lived within areas covered by the Croydon Advertiser when resident in the U.K. However, for over 20 years I had it delivered and could not wait for it to arrive on a Friday. Alas the 'local' paper is a victim of social media and we are the worse for it I fear. Does anyone else remember the Saturday Late Edition of the Evening News? Up to my late teens I would waste so much time on a Saturday evening hanging around waiting for it to go on sale in my then home town of Windsor. It was awful in many regards - the reports were written before games concluded and the league tables were almost always wrong - but it was a thing of beauty!

If memory serves me well the last ever Saturday copy of the Evening News was the weekend before the Burnley game in 79. Probably have a copy knocking about with my copy of 'There and back again,' published by the Adder to celebrate promotion.

That Mark Ritson is a knob too. Remember him making up lies about Yannick Bolasie and having to apologise? The 'paper' is a joke, much like the 'journo's'.
