Not sure if this has been done before, but here goes. I had an update on Facebook this week celebrating the birthday of one Perry Suckling. They showed a video him in action against Blackburn in home playoff final. I went to that match, and I think that was the most euphoric atmosphere I have ever felt at Selhurst. Unfortunately, as I was only 6 at the time I could not goto the Palace v Burnley record attendance in 1979, which I'm sure unbelievable. So, which match holds your view as being the best atmosphere at Selhurst ?

The Blackburn game was very, very special and the fact we could invade the pitch at the end just enhanced it. Atmosphere was top notch from the first whistle until the last. Unrelenting. The Burnley match was a wee bit strange because although there were near 60,000 in the ground the noise was never sing-song coordinated much but more a mass of slightly nervy shouts and 'come on' and cheers. Brilliant night all the same.

Crystanbul! certainly in recent years it has to be this. As true to the metaphor 'the atmosphere was electric' as you can get - the noise was so thunderous it felt like the air would actually crack with lightening.

The Swindon play off semi 89 was on a different level although the Sunderland 2004 home leg semi was almost as good and we didn't need a drum😀

Blackburn was great, from memory. Beating Burnley 5-0 in the 07/09 season. A early penalty and sending off calmed the nerves and the atmosphere was great all over the ground (aside from the away end, obviously). The win put us into the play offs but the least said about Howard Webb the better. The FA Cup final and semi finals last year were both great atmosphere, best at Wembley / old Wembley.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

After 15 mins of 2nd half, and remembering some historic thrashings at the hands of liverpool, i said "we can go if you like, avoid the crowds' - "no, lets stay" she said. Then the first goal. I said again "how are you feelin, we've got one back, i dont mind leaving if you want to... "no, lets give it another 5 mins." Ok i said. Then the 2nd goal... and the crowd is absolutely buzzing...."erm we're not leaving now' i said .....then Dwight Gayle slips in the equaliser....i nearly had the baby!!!

Great atmosphere at Portsmouth away in 2000/01 with both teams needing a win. We won 4-2 leaving it possible to survive if we won at Stockport (which was s*** atmosphere, until we scored).

Blackburn playoff game for me too. I listened to the first leg on the radio while staying at my grandparents' house as my parents were away. 3-1 down I thought the second leg was going to be pointless. Instead it was simply amazing and the pitch invasion after, with the antics of some of the fans was brilliant. People praying on the pitch, crying, hugging etc.
Optimistic as ever |

No thoughts yet on the 5-0 Scum thrashing? Atmosphere so vibrant you could see the Palace players looking around on their second warm up and soaking it all up. To be fair, Brighton played their part fully until we scored :-) "5 nil and you can't go home".

1969 v Fulham, 1st promotion in my lifetime that I actually was there to witness. 5-0 v Moanure, '72, Gerry Queen etal. Defo the Burnley game, tho that atmosphere was rather 'strained' until the final whistle. Cup Finals(& semis), other play-offs.....BR1-0TON games
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
