Maybe blinded by Benteke's amazing headers or Townsend's excellent start or man-of-the-match performances by the likes of Jimmy Mac but I'd not really focused on how well Puncheon has played this season. Seems like the stats say he's our best player right now.

My gut -- and it is only that -- tells me he does indeed do better without YC in the team. I just can't figure out why that should be the case. Could YC be asking him to receive the ball in difficult positions? Could he just need to feel like more of the 'main man'? Or could it just be he was average at the start of last year and then nobody shone when Jimmy Mac went out of the side?

I think we are a more possession based team this year - with the arrival of Benteke and departure of Bolasie both helping in this respect.

This suits Puncheon who likes to take his time and work a good pass rather than trying to set the wingers off and running ASAP

His massive swings in form are probably the reason it's taken him so long to establish himself as a Premiership footballer, but when he's on it, he's a cracking player.

If he can sustain anywhere near his current performance levels for a whole season, we're in for a good year.

Our developing style of play seems to suit Punch. Andros, Punch & Wilf work well together behind CB. Tbh I prefer Punch in the ACM role than Cabaye. But the 2 are imo interchangeable. So we have cover. Can't be bad.

Not sure we need to risk a chance on Lima if Punch plays like he does atm.

Punch is having a brilliant run. Personally I was hoping that we would pick up an alternative but actually now we have the successful Ledley/McArthur combo we now have Cabaye competing with Punch for the CAM role. I also suspect Townsend can play there too.

Punch has been superb recently,I think playing with the likes of Townsend,Benteke etc has improved his game.Last season he seemed to get sloppy and a bit careless in possession ,now he's keeping his concentration and is a confident player,he's like a new addition to the team.

The season before last Puncheon was our dead ball man, and he was very good at it. For some reason Cabaye comes in and is given the job of taking all the free kicks. Why, who knows, maybe he insisted upon it when he signed? All I know is that Puncheon is a lot better at it than Cabaye is and in my opinion we are a better team when Cabaye isn't playing.

It's not just free kicks but I accept that's a thing. Maybe that goes back to the 'main man' thing. I think it's got something to do with how we play. No idea why though.
