Sloppy journos

I know that poor grammar and spelling are to be found running rampant throughout journalism but I take issue with sloppy journos who can't be bothered either to check their facts or their copy. According to the attached article, we've already played 10 games, losing the first five before managing a draw with Bournemouth. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the local job centre who could do better.

Wasn't a journalist who wrote that. HITC Sport let pretty much anybody write for them and pay them (a pittance) if their articles get a certain number of views. Invariably they're dreadful articles as a result, there was one recently referring to "Soares" being injured, meaning Souare.

But the op raises a good point that now a days, media is being merged with social media and social media is pretty much anyone that wants to speak.. we all got an opinion, doesn't mean its true.

I am a journalist, and this sort of thing gives us a bad name to compound the bad name we already have in many circles. These days anyone can pretend to be a journalist, just as anyone with a smartphone can pretend to be a photographer. All you need is the ability to type, which in many cases is the only ability. Suffice to say that if this chap sent his copy into a newspaper or credible website it wouldn't make it any further than the bin. Poor grammer and speling were not running rife through journalism when I started; blame the kids!

My gripe isn't with the style or the opinion. It's just that if you want to take the dosh on offer for your opinion, bloody well check your facts before you begin spouting. Ok, the fact finding could have been better but lean off the author a tad? At least they tried - could be a youngster, or someone with learning difficulties for all we know!
