Can't decide whether he is good for us or not. Logic dictates that Cabaye is a far superior player and supposedly they do similar jobs for the team but we've hardly struggled with Ledley in there (thought he was good against Stoke) and Cabaye has had a poor 2016 in general. Currently I can't imagine many calling for Cabaye to be reinstated into the first XI over Ledley, myself included. But Ledley also seems to have quite big mistakes in him; the gift to Defoe last week and once or twice he have the ball away in really stupid positions against Everton, his movement is sluggish so he's not capable of sorting his feet out to recover from an error. I think the deepest lying midfielder has got to have a virtually error free game in about 4/5 matches he plays. Has Ledley got away with the mistakes purely on the basis that we've managed to salvage good results or is his contribution to the team a positive one overall? He's a decent squad player who tries really hard. His place will be under pressure when Flamini and Cabaye get fully match fit.

He's made a couple of mistakes but I still can't get out of my head that I prefer him to Cabaye. I'm sure in the long run I'll be wrong about that.

The midfield has had a nice balance to it since Ledley has been in. Hard to say if that has been down to Ledley himself or McArthur getting fit and in form. Punch has also been outstanding, something that's rarely coincided with Cabaye playing. Edited by Ginger Pubic Wig (01 Oct 2016 6.58pm)

I do think that our midfield last season was one of the best in the division up until January when it all fell apart. Cabaye did bring quality and a bit of fight into that midfield initially, Pardew needs to get him back to that level.

Undoubtedly Cabaye is a better footballer I just happen to think Ledley is a better fit. He fulfills the same role he does for Wales. Allowing other players to do their thing and covering the gaps across midfield and defence. The sort of role that you only notice when there's none performing it. Since he's come in we are undefeated. Yes there are other reasons too but having Ledley in the team is one one of them. It allows other players to play.

I think ledley is the better player defensively, but Cabaye is the better player technically. However - if we remain unbeaten then we should not tinker with the system and (sorry Cabaye) Ledley should stay in until his form dips or we lose.

Ledders looks a bit out of sorts at the mo and imo the weak link in our team. He is under pressure what with McArthur playing further forward-punch doesn't quite have that bite to help cover as effectively. As another post suggests, the holding mid needs to be virtually flawless everything game, personally I prefer it when McArthur sits 90% of the match and, imo he isn't all that useful playing off Tekkers-he doesn't have any pace unlike punch. That all said, we've a depleted squad and still getting results, let's ride it out until such time we have some better options!
