As much as last night was a disgrace (I was one of the ones singing my heart out at the game) can I ask a question: How long is it going to take AP/Owners to accept that players like Mutch, Fryers (Who was completely out of his depth not even sure he would make the Championship) Chungy ( Who had a lot of energy but no real end product) Sako are just not good enough and on last nights showing should not be anywhere near the first team squad. Wickham also looked dis-interested and looks like he has accepted that now Benteke and Remy are here he will no longer play. We have youngsters like Kalkai, Anderson, Williams (Who parses was only saying a few weeks back that he needs to see him more) Appiah, J Benteke, Boetang, Dreyher, surely these are the players that should be used in theses sort of games and would give us much more hunger, desire than the bunch did last night. Anyone making excuses about last night really need to question themselves as it was a disgrace our first shot on target was on 82 minutes from Benteke who won more headers in the last 10 minutes than wickham did in 90. What actually goes on at training as Fryers is terrible seriously bad makes me wonder what AP has been watching. Yet again it has just proved we have no depth and could seriously be in trouble if we get some injuries and fear if we lose 2 CB cause we just have cover. Let's hope we play like we did on Sunday against Sunderland. Onwards and Upwards

Do you not think they're trying to improve the squad bit by bit already? Do you not think that the starting eleven (and fringes of it) are stronger than it was this time last year? Jaysus some people simply have no patience at all!

Fully agree with squad depth, great first 11 but shocking squad players. The biggest bugbear I got is not giving our youth a chance. Pardew is too arrogant to play them but with pressure he will, being the arrogant sh he is, he'll take full credit when they come on and have a stormer. He will say that they needed the time in lower league's to develop when we all know many young players simply sink or float. Last night was the ideal opportunity to try some of them out.

I was one who said we had not had as great a transfer window as many had thought but I agreed with the argument Rome was not built in a day..

I think the rule changes re loans have been missed by many. We can no longer hold onto development/youth squad players for early cup games etc then loan them out. These guys need game time so it is in both theirs & the club's best interest to get them playing regularly which would not happen with us. They are clearly, in the manager's opinion, not ready for the first team squad which needs a bit of EPL experience in it. Whilst we are 'thin' in many areas, you'd normally expect to only ever need to use a couple of fringe players at any one time (allowing for injuries/suspensions/respite) rather than wholesale changes like last night. Maybe Dann shouldn't have been risked last night but the team, whatever the lineup, needs leadership on the pitch & we do lack real leaders now Jedi has gone. It was an opportunity for many to step up and stake a claim to the first team but none seemed to feel the need.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

The truth is out of our 22 outfield players in the squad only 16 are ul to it and three of those are currently injured one long term(Pape) and another that we wont see until Dec(Remy) so we only have 13 outfield players of Prem quality. Every member of the squad should be able to make a decent contribution

I guess when we have a lot of injuries we will have to integrate one or two players who reduce the overall quality of the first XI. That is juts how football. I don't expect to see each of these players playing together in a League match. The potential is that when surrounded by better players then someone like Lee, for example, will be playing much better, as is in evidence this season. Even Yannick Bolasie seems to be playing better at Everton surrounded by better players.

We're stuck with these players until a few mugs turn up to buy them on equal wages. We're not covered enough in defence now. We weren't in midfield but got Flamini in. Now he might have to be used at RB but Ledley sooner at LB if anything happens back there very soon.

Triangle or line across or down the pitch though and it can be a problem and a weakness the opposition use as a strategy for attack.

Not sure what people are expecting, we clearly aren't set up to have two quality starting XIs. Where we have depth is for players to come in and perform alongside the more establish players. As has been shown by Ledley, Kelly, Delaney and Lee so far in the league. That's what depth means to a club like us. To expect what is basically a reserve team to suddenly turn up and gel together and perform as well as the starting XI is a bit ridiculous. Funnily enough Mutch, Wickham and Sako don't look great playing next to each other in one game having not featured much this season. Unless disaster strikes though, we won't be throwing a line up like this together anytime soon. Yeah, it would be great if we were playing youngsters in this game. Then once we were knocked out they could sit on the bench for the rest of the year. Personally, I much prefer the fact that they're all getting regular games every week on loan.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

TBF that's exactly how Utd did this with their kids...brought 1 or 2 in to a very strong unit and as such they were able to be 'carried' in parts by the unit. We now have a strong enough 11 to risk the odd 'youth' player in certain games...20min cameos for the likes of Luke Dreher wouldn't go amiss. Having said that if the team is fighting relegation then all whimsical thinking goes out of the door and the experienced pro's being paid the big bucks to deliver should rightly be 1st names on the teamsheet.
