Hope you all enjoyed my piece on my first Palace game in the programme on Sunday. I sent it in a couple weeks ago ago and forgot all about it until I opened the programme. Without sounding picky they left out a word in the second sentence and got the Liverpool line up wrong though. Whitham was a striker not a left back. That Thatcher-loving idiot Emlyn Hughes played at left back that day.

No. I had forgotten all about it until I noticed it thumbing through the programme at halftime.

Sadly couldn't be there in person. When was your first Palace game? I'm assuming it was against Liverpool? I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure mine was August 31st 1963 v Mansfield Town and we won 3-1. I was only 9 years old and went with my older brother who was 12 and stood/sat on the grass bank above the Holmesdale terrace. My memory of the match and scorers is non existent but I know we got the 157 bus from Wrythe Green, Carshalton and bought a bag of monkey nuts from the bloke who chucked them from the pitchside. I suppose I could cheat and look up the scorers on google, but it won't bring the images in my head back. I had a crew cut at the time and some bloke randomly rubbed my head as I walked by him. We had just "upgraded" from watching Carshalton Athletic at home on a Saturday afternoon. Edited by Hoof Hearted (24 Sep 2016 10.04am)

Mine was against Pompey in November 1966, I had been fired up to see a game after the World Cup earlier that year, despite having "supported" Palace as a schoolboy. Sadly Palace let me down that day, they lost 2-0. My only sighting of legendary Bert Howe, Palace's anwer to Ron Harris I understand.

Mine has got to be around the same time - think it was a 2-2 draw with Brentford and we stood on the grass (mud) bank on the Holmesdale Originally posted by Hoof Hearted

Mine was 1960/61, we beat York 1-0 and I was in the terracing of the old stand. Can't remember who scored but was there with my Dad and Grandad, God bless them both for getting me into the Palace family.

I remember that game, it snowed quite heavily and we weren't sure if he game would be played and Ray Hiron scored for them.

Pretty sure my first game was September 95 when I was finally old enough to travel to a game on my own , was Birmingham away , the score 0-0 and the game was awful. My first home game I think was the same year , a couple of months later , it was against Derby , the score 0-0 and another awful game !!! The first truly entertaining game I went to was I think later that same season when we won either 4-1 or 4-2 away at Oxford *just checked online , wasn't far off 09/09/95 Brum game 25/11/95 Derby game but wrong about Oxford , that was 01/03/97 Edited by herefordeagle (29 Sep 2016 6.51pm)

20 Feb 1965 home to Notts Forest (Div 1 team then) in the FA Cup, we won 3-1 - hooked.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |
