Hadn't really noticed until my dad mentioned it to me today but we fielded 9 British players I believe on Saturday!! What other team in the premier league can say that? Very proud!

I agree.....though for the English national team the Premiership is a pretty dire place at the moment.

We need a quota system that works.

If you are counting Damian Delaney, he comes from the Republic of Ireland.

Partially enforced (Cabaye, Remy, Souare) and you could make an argument that the two (Mandanda and Benteke) are the best two in our entire squad.

But it is interesting especially given there's an assumption that buying English/British players comes at a premium whereas most of our squad is relatively inexpensive in assembly.

Damo only came on at half time for Tomkins.

Burnley fielded more British players on Saturday at Leicester.

They're dicing with relegation by staying financially disciplined though. May well work if they do get relegated with the huge tv money now and do a West Brom of past times but you'd have thought they'd loosen the purse a bit.

Unless I'm being completely stupid the 9 doesn't include DD.

Of the starting line up only Mandanda and Benteke aren't British.
Mandanda; Ward, Dann (c), Tomkins, Kelly; McArthur, Puncheon, Ledley; Zaha, Townsend; Benteke.

We also had Hennessey and Wickham on the bench. So we could have an entire British starting eleven

Since being promoted last season, Burnley have signed :
Nick Pope £1.1 Mill, Steven Defour £7.35 Mill and Jeff Hendrick £10.5 Mill.Their 'Net' spend is greater than ours !

Good post. I knew you were right the first time. Even when you present cast iron facts on here, someone always tries to twist something or rain on someones parade. It is a great accolade for the club, and nearly all of our British players could play for most of the top half Premier League teams. The likes of Dann, McArthur, Cabaye, Mandanda and Townsend are good enough to be squad members for the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, Man United and Chelsea. I would certainly argue that Dann should walk into the Arsenal team. Our players are better than Burnley have got

Bournemouth must have been close as well. Against City:

Smith, Francis, Cook, Daniels, Ibe, Wilshere, Surman, Arter, Stanislas. Arter plays for Ireland but was born in England.

To answer "Glaziermart" who risibly talked about "Raining on parades" etc etc - When the word "Fielded" was used I took it to mean players who actually took to the field and not those named in the squad but who didn't play.So no "Raining" or "Twisting".
