With the lack of strength in our squad, would it be a good idea to play a weakened side against Southampton. After the FA Cup last season derailed our season. What is your thought on our carling cup game on Wednesday ?
Especially with an important game against sunderland on the 24th.

Should we pritoise the league ?

Its tricky, the League Cup and FA Cup as priorities only really are outweighed by avoiding relegation. In truth, remaining a premiership team is the only really critical objective.

If we view it constructively, then the League Cup becomes something of a priority, as it represents the trophy we probably have the best chance to achieve (and is more realistic than a top 10 or European finish). Followed probably by the FA Cup (slightly harder for us to win I think).

I agree, however last season was a good cup run, this season we should prioritise the league.

No one really cares about it unless you are a non PL team playing one of the big four/six from the PL or until you get to the quarter finals.

For the Southampton game I'd expect to see a mixture of first team players and squad players.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Cup run without depth of squad = too risky (applies to League, FA and Europa).

Avoid. Leave to others. Use as a practice match for fringe players.

At this stage yes, but semi final stage, I'd care big time, the gamble is whether you take it seriously enough to try and get there. If we went down and won either cup, I'd be gutted but realistically, our squad is decent enough to put out a side that can compete for the first couple of rounds without risking the main men like Dann and Benteke. We are never going to win the league so it would be nice to actually win something!

I completely disagree. Winning the league or FA Cup is the ambition for our club.
Survival is the priority but the cup our ambition.

I think Pards has indicated the same.

It's my no.1 lifetime ambition to see Palace win a trophy and go in the history books.

As much as I loved the ZDS, it seems to have been erased from most history books!

It's not my lifetime ambition to stay in the premier league, however nice it would be.

No. After last season and the way everyone got side tracked by a cup run this year we should avoid the cups and get a decent league finish. Have a go at a cup when we have a better squad depth.

Southampton are playing Europa league so are unlikely to put a strong team out.

If we put out Hennessy, Kelly, Dann, Tomkins, Fryers, Ledley, Flamini, Townsend, Lee, Sako, Wickham (mainly bench players) we could give Southampton a competitive game and hopefully progress. If we get to later round like last 16 or quarter final, we could start to taie the league cup a bit more serious.
