Big season for him now with Pape likely to be out until next year. I really rate Kelly. I think he is an excellent defender, more naturally suited to right back, but can do a good job on the left. I think he has been unlucky since he joined us. You must be a decent standard when you have come from the Liverpool youth set up. Anyone else agree?

I agree, though I think he's just as suited to central defender. I rate Kelly highly and feel that overall he's actually an improvement defensively. Also he provides height at corners both offensively and defensively.

Yes, I'm pleased for him that he's going to get an opportunity to play more regularly this season, though I'm certain we would all wish it was in very different circumstances. I'm sure he'll acquit himself very well.

Pretty reliable player but I was adamant throughout the summer that we needed another left-back, and I'm hoping we get one lined up to sign right away in January.

The thing I like about Kelly is, despite not offering any one outstanding ability, he almost never lets his teammates down with poor decision making and lack of commitment. He's a solid defensive player and a great first choice backup player to have at our disposal.

Not sure how many people saw this article a few days ago but given the awful news about Pape we could potentially see Dann with Kelly, Tomkins and Fryers as a back four very soon. Edited by citizensmudge (12 Sep 2016 6.01pm)

Still we will be all right with Kelly.

A very sound and consistent player. The good news maybe is that there are 4or 5 players in the first team who could provide decent crosses or through balls for Benteke so he wouldnt need to bomb forward as much as Souare does

I actually think he's been really hard done by not getting a chance last season at RB when Wardy went off the boil and at CB when Damo went through a period of 4+ headless chicken moments a game. He is a CB and has never had a run of games to settle in.

Any other teams in the division have a fully English back four? How novel.
