Yesterday's result was both pleasing and a relief. Benteke scoring his first goal for the club is an enormous boost. I am fully behind Alan Pardew and Steve Parish because I think we have had an excellent transfer window. Benteke, Townsend, Mandanda are proving their worth already and I am sure Tompkins will do well. For me the signing of Flamini was the icing on the cake. We were all looking for an experienced and classy midfielder and in the Frenchman I think we have the perfect answer. However I am dismayed at the treatment of our Academy players. I was hoping to see our three most promising youngsters get a chance to show their worth this season. Instead Jake Gray goes to Luton on a free and Kaikai and Jerome Boateng are sent to the lower leagues for another season. Out of nowhere Jonathan Benteke appears and comes on against Middlesbrough. How exactly can that happen? We have already named our 25 man squad and as a 21 year old he can't be regarded as an under age player. Or am I missing something? Both Sullay and Jerome must be looking on with a jaundiced eye at this happening. That aside I think we now have a very strong squad and I am looking forward to the visit of Stoke next Sunday. A perfect chance for us to showcase our club on live TV. But then again, this is Palace.

You seem convinced of Boateng's quality yet don't even know his first name

Benteke JR was signed for the development squad on a 1 year deal presumably to asses whether he has the necessary skill set to progress be a premier league player like his brother. The guys have gone out on loan to progress their careers as staying with the squad would mean bit part action, if any, with the first team. This all happened before the transfer window closed when we had Remy, Benteke Snr, Wickham all vying for the front man of our squad with Appiah and Campbell on the way back. Since then Remy has gone back to Chelsea and Wickham got a knock keeping him out. That left us with no cover at all for Benteke as Appiah and Campbell are both not fit yet. I don't see Benteke Jnr. being used often but it was a needs must tbh and I think the other lads are far better off getting a full season of competitive football behind them than the odd minute here and there. I doubt they are bothered as they are focusing on getting into the starting 11 of their current teams to show they have what it takes to get into ours and if they aren't, they should be.

It's a joke ....players graft for years to try and make their first team debuts...this guy justs rolls up and plays, and is now a premiership player ( he couldn't get in to a Belgium second division team). ... Smacks of nepotism ! Also, these actions can cause unrest in the camp...tread carefully AP

I made a point of criticising Pardew in another thread regarding his press conference where he said 'young strikers like him are hard to come by' I got slammed by some on here, probably fairly, but i honestly was not saying he was not going to be good one day, it was just that Pards comments i think were disrespectful to both Keshi Anderson and Freddie Ladapo. Why is Christian's brother seen to be ahead of them?
